Coronavirus

Are you stockpiling? We’re in a vicious circle here where most sensible people won’t stockpile for many reasons - faith in the system, a conscience etc but that doesn’t mean much when so many other (dumb? Selfish? Smart?) people are stockpiling themselves and before you know it, shelves are empty when you need the products yourself.

It’s hard to predict what will happen in the next few weeks/months but for me I feel that cases will multiply to the point the NHS (I’m back in England for the next two months before Oz) will collapse under the strain of so many sick people and people will start looting etc. It will be next to impossible to find many things that are necessary and if you do, some opportunist twots charging kings ransoms for everyday items.

I actually think from April onwards we might be seeing empty football stadiums (City fans will be used to it) to get the season finished like they’re doing in Italy and next weeks Valencia game. Think the euros is a gonner too. We used to laugh at those doomsday preppers but they’re probably the best off right now 😂

What are you guys doing to prepare for a potentially rough next few months? Gallows humour and plenty of alcohol?

For what it’s worth I’m one of those selfish stockpilers 😂 Bought a huge load of long life stuff and I’ve told myself that if this thing doesn’t turn into a ‘thing’ I can give it all to a food bank when it al dies down. Fair enough?

Your apathy is dangerous and it’s scary how I’d imagine these things could happen while people at you say banal things like ‘it’s just flu’

Try and see the writing on the wall

what writing on the wall, you plank?

It is for most just like the flu. And it is for most something that you can cary without showing any symptons. Just like most of us do each year with the flu.

As people like you panic, trillions of $ are been wiped of all our pensions and saving. Its a fecking disgrace, created by media channels like the BBC who are obsessed with it on rolling news bulletins with nothing new to say on them.

We all doomed, Cpt. Mainwaring.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

So clueless it actually hurts.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm genuinely curious as to what you're talking about here Robb?

I'd be wary of just dismissing this as a flu - as I said earlier in the thread we dont really know enough about it to do that yet, which is why authorities are understandably cautious.

At the same time there is absolutely nothing to support these doomsday predictions in your article.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I’ve not said the things in my OP will deffo happen - just an opinion on a possible outcome

The clueless thing came about because I’m just tired of people brushing this off as just a flu without understanding the possibilities of what could happen - it’s those people who brush it off who go out into the public and don’t take the right precautions. It’s panic and worry that actually stop this kind of thing from spreading. Apathy will make it worse.

I don’t worry about getting it or dying from it and I don’t expect people to feel the same. But I do worry that apathy might lead to a huge spike in cases for the people that should worry about getting it and do you really think an already stretched NHS can deal with tens of thousands of people possibly needing hospital attention at once?

The problem with these types of situations is that if you’re overly cautious and nothing big happens because of being overly safe then people laugh it off after the event and say ‘see, it wasn’t big at all’ without realising that maybe being overly cautious was what stopped it from being big.

Things are escalating quickly. It is infuriating to see people saying it’s just like a flu and not to worry. This is one of the biggest health problems in decades and has to be handled correctly. You can never be too careful

Interesting he picks the bbc. It’s the same on any news network. same in any paper (daily fails first 6 stories), but apparently it’s the bbc to blame. <rolleyes>

Yes they are to blame, not for Coronavirus but for the hysteria, because it is the news programme we all watch and believe, you clown, as it is the public service broadcaster for this country. They are supposed to be informing/educating us not scaremongering the 5hite out of us. Maybe ITV news also over dramatise this, too. I wouldn't know cos I would never consider watching it...I am a massive fan of the BBC but they have let us down over this one. I am allowed to criticise under Lord Reith's charter. (Google that)

So, smarty pants... whats interesting about that, then?

Why shouldn’t the public be scared? Would you prefer them to just think it’s another flu and to go about your daily business?

Yes because that is the official advice from the GVT, as it stands.

Just intrigued as I think they are the one place that should be impartial, should be the most trusted.

Fair enough if that’s your view though.
