Olympiacos v Wolves Preview

Date: Thursday 12th March
Venue: Karaiskakis Stadium
Kick off time: 20.00

On Thursday Wolves continue their Europa League adventure when they travel to Greece to take on Olympiacos.

In the previous round Olympiacos knocked out Arsenal with an aggregate score of 2-2, winning on away goals. Managed by Portuguese Pedro Martins, they are currently on top of the Greek Super League.

Despite losing the last game in the previous round, Wolves knocked out Espanyol with an aggregate score of 6-3. In that game, Wolves scored 2 goals, both assisted by Portuguese newcomer Daniel Podence. For Podence this game will be bitter sweet as he arrived at Wolves in January having played for Olympiacos for 18 months.

Located in Piraeus, Athens, with a capacity of 32,115, the Karaiskakis Stadium is the second largest stadium in the country and the largest stadium used purely for football.
The modern stadium boasts 40 VIP lounges and suites, a press conference hall, an entire shopping mall, with restaurants, cafés, retail and clothing stores and a gym.

A total of 1,600 travelling fans will be unable to attend the game despite having bought tickets and making travel and accommodation plans. On Sunday the Greek government put a 14 day ban on sporting events watched by members of the public as the latest knee jerk reaction to the Corona Virus outbreak. As a result the game will be played behind closed doors.

Due to Wolves’ progression in the Europa League competition, the league game against Bournemouth scheduled for Saturday 21st March will now be played on Sunday 22nd with a kick off time of 2pm.

Gem’s prediction: 1-1

Pretty much.

Whenever anyone disagrees with you, you always claim that all the Wolves fans you know are on your side of the argument. Its pretty standard.

I talk to lots of Wolves supporters every week and the views you express about our style of play being negative is one that has never once even arisen in those conversations. Happy to lie about that if it makes you feel more loved

Press speculating that football in The Premier League will continue but behind closed doors and that people with tickets to the games will receive free live streams. Seems an expensive way to watch games from the sofa to me

Just for interest with regard to your comments about Liverpool supporters. I was in a box for the away game at Spurs recently and the other people in there were a great group of fellow Wolves supporters. The organiser says their box is often filled with mostly away supporters and they are generally good fun and well behaved. He did however say that when they had Liverpool supporters in there they were an absolute disgrace

Starting to think DJs mates are the coaching staff and players. How else would the words negative have never come up watching Wolves? Early season Nuno was getting plenty of grief for it.

On a lighter note only Manchester and Wolverhampton left representing England in Europe this season.

Only Norwich and Newcastle spend less time in the opposition find third than Wolves. Not a lot of people know that.

I think a lot of people have adopted Wolves as a second team but i think it is fair to say that most watch Wolves when we face the big clubs rather than a Brighton and enjoy watching us show up those big clubs.

Also nobody is saying Wolves are always negative, not at all, hell we have been trailing so much we have had to attack to get back in games.
