Mousa Dembélé has retired from

... International football.

Mousa Dembele calls it a day at the highest level due to fitness and injury issues

Mousa Dembele has officially announced that he has retired from football at the age of 32.

The midfielder has not played for Belgium since September 2018 when he played the final ten minutes of the 3-0 win against Iceland in the UEFA Nations League which brought his international appearance total to an impressive 82 caps (transfermarkt).

Dembele, who is a legendary figure among the Tottenham Hotspur supporters departed North London in January of last year when he completed a £11million move to Chinese Super League side Guangzhou R&F (Guardian).

The former Fulham played had struggled with injuries and fitness problems in recent seasons and was said to be fully aware of his body’s inability to continue to play Premier League football by swapping it for a less demanding competition.

Dembele made 250 appearances in all competitions for the Champions League finalists, scoring 10 goals.

Great footballer, had the ability to make those around him raise their games and made them look better players. Spurs have still not replaced him adequately, hence our team has gone to shiete since he left.

I've heard it's football alltogether?

Why would he retire for International football when he hasn't played for Belgium in 2 years anyway?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Because he could still be called up if they want him?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Doubt he'd get a call up anyway.

Belgium have a quality squad.

Most players come out of International retirement anyway.

Mousa

Dont think I've ever taken a player for granted to such an extent, got used to thinking that midfielders just should never lose the ball

My favorite all time player at Spurs. Doubt there will be anyone else like him. Still remember that midget Wilshere bouncing off him at the lane when we beat LeArse 2-0
Or him swatting away Henderson away like a roach and leaving him scrambling in his wake. He made others around him look good(Dele..cough) by doing all the dirty work and grafting and now we need Dele to stand up and show us his mettle we realise he is just an average footballer synonymous with many we buy.
Good luck , big man..

Mad to think he started out as a strike. Absolute tank.

I liked Dembele a lot, he hasn`t really been replaced. But players like him are very, very hard to replace.

One of my favourite non Chelsea players to watch. I always have said if he managed to get coached by the right manager sooner (wasted his early years playing as a forward), and with no injury problems, he’d be well recognised as one of the best and most talented b2b midfielders of this generation
