Southgate does like to play through the full backs. I don’t think taking two right backs is crazy.

Remains to be seen if AWB is better there than Walker. In theory he should be because he’s a better defender but Walker’s become a better defender than people give him credit for, and has experience in the role having been coached to play there by Pep.

AWB wouldn’t be going to play the way TAA, it’s about having different options. Horses for courses can be crucial in international tournaments, as well as having subs that can offer different things. If I want to see a game out and England are under the cosh I’m bringing AWB on to do that.

If we have a lead to defend. I wouldn’t start him over TAA unless the latter has an absolute mare of a tournament. The Euros is probably going to be cancelled anyway, so we’ll have to revisit this next summer.

Was thinking the same, but two issues:

1. How many teams would that actually give?

2. Is it not fair to say that these days, attacking players are less rigid positionally and we could end up playing a full back to mark a player who only spends 30 minutes on the wing?
