Basically - just because their plan just about came to fruition, doesn't mean that their plan was a good one, or executed well.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It was the best they could do given the different abilities of the teams, their natural tactics/style of play and propensity to defend/attack.

Any other kind of plan from Atletico (had they gone there to attack more) and Liverpool would be smiling right now I guarantee you.

Sure, maybe they conceded more chances than they would have liked but again, Simeone knew they were always going to need a bit of luck to go through and was most likely expecting penalties (even if they did defend well for 120 minutes + stoppage time).

Melton had it not been for Adrians error so soon after we scored Atletico would have had to come out and attack.

They conceded 35 shots while defending, that would have been added to had they had to sustain attacks.

But for Adrian being a prckk during an easy night for him it would have been so.

Atletico did something similar to Arsenal in the Europa League a few seasons back with Antoine Greasyman scoring a jammy goal to knock us out then doing his annoying French dance in celebration to rub it in. I didn't like him before that, I hated him after.

I agree, but I also thought your attackers had an off day and should have wrapped it up in ninety minutes. As soon as it goes to the last ten minutes, or extra time, then anything can happen, like us against Spurs last season! I don’t really get the just blaming him, you had a couple of chances that really should have been finished (or the attacker could have passed instead of shot for an easy goal) in ninety minutes, it is their fault too ultimately.

You did still have time to rectify it as well, that second goal in extra time wasn’t just down to Adrian, that was poor defending in general.

It happens. Your performance was very good in general but it’s ultimately all about what happens in both boxes.

Considering the away goals rule as soon as it goes to the last 10-20 minutes the mental pressure really shifts and takes on a strange dynamic for the home team, there is no real room for defensive error and the Liverpool defence and goalkeeper cracked under that pressure.

For me, Atletico's second goal was poor defending, a 3v2 situation - 4v2 if you include Adrian and not one of the three defenders got tight on the free player (Llorente I think?) to cut off the pass... One was definitely Adrian's fault and the other 50/50 defence/goalkeeper.

Atletico only scored 1 from inside the box.

Regardless of the misses that error was the pivotal moment.

I don’t really get the logic in that though. It was only pivotal because of the misses, so surely the misses are pivotal too?

pool have had some "luck" not in their football they have been the best in England but they have been lucky not be unlucky. Eventually all teams get an unlucky break its just the law of averages that it will happen at least a few times a season.

Pivotal in that Atletico basically would have had to change their game plan!
From parking the bus and conceding 2 goals and 35 shots to actually having to attack.

Likelihood is that we would have had more clear cut chances.
