Suspension/cancellation

So the current status of English football is that leagues are suspended until April 3rd.

Some folk see things resuming at some point.

Just wondering if this is really feasible? Not least because as elite sportsmen such a break, with self isolation etc can players have 2-4 weeks off and then simply get back to it without a preseason type of period?

In essence is this really a cancellation? Until a plan can be sorted with regards to any legal type issues that may arise?

Just out of curiosity what would the losses be playing behind closed door?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
PL clubs depend on TV revenue over gate receipts.

What football fans really need to be concerned about is what happens to lower league clubs over the next few months.

If fixtures are cancelled into next season, we might well lose multiple football clubs. L1, L2 and National League clubs are massively dependent on gate receipts and match day revenue.

Tbh Rosso that's the kind of thing I was alluding to above.

I think most arguments I've seen/read are from prem teams and specifically LFC fans being wummed and arguments of finishing the season.

Again not a dig at LFC here, the likes of Leeds will feel similar

A ruling/governing body will need to look much wider than the few teams it will have the biggest impact on.

I say few because bar the bottom clubs in the prem and a couple looking at promotion and Liverpool looking at the title the majority don't have the same level of issues.

I know the top teams often get.the attention over the minnows, as it were, but in this case there could be a potential mass collapse and I don't think the footballing bodies can afford to ignore the minnows

Some guys who know a lot more about lower league football than me have been saying this afternoon that losing a half-season’s worth of gate receipts and match day revenue could see more than a division’s worth of English clubs (not even considering Scotland and Wales) going into administration

Seems daft to void the season because we don't even know when it'll be possible to start the next one. For all we know we might not be able to play again until November and then you'd have two seasons messed up instead of just one.

10 games left could easily be played in a 6 week period like we do over Christmas so it's surely easier to finish the season off however long it takes.

Not sure it is easier with the nature of the virus and issues surrounding it.

We could potentially be looking at a year before we could play the 10 games.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So be it.

Or just make next season a longer one. Get the remainder of this one out the way, maybe a short break and then go again.

They’ll finish this league season as that’s the part that has the most impact. Your talking about 5 weeks to complete it, you can start again in June, 3 months from now which is the timeline WHO has given for this virus; and be finished by the beginning of July. Then pickup the new season in November, cancel a couple international breaks which would allow for 4 more games, cancel the winter break which allows for 2 more and be finished around May as usual.

I can’t believe people are saying cancel this one and start again fresh with the exact same teams, that’s the most illogical situation.

Nations League will have to go.

Exactly. We're three quarters through, it's a crazy notion. If we were less than half way then maybe.

Not from a financial perspective.

And that’s what the game absolutely revolves around now.

If everyone has a month break and gets straight back into it, that would be well funny to watch, the fitness levels of players etc.
I'd be interested
