Will Covid19 trigger European Super League?

I’ve never liked the sound of one but if anything is going to put it in place, it’s Coronavirus.

Liverpool fans, I know you don’t want to hear it, but the season is going to be voided (in my opinion) and restarted with no awards given.

It’s not fair on Liverpool but it’s the only way to end the season. If you give Liverpool the title then do you guarantee Leicester a CL spot. Do you send Bournemouth and Villa down?

A lot of clubs will be pisssssed off regardless of the outcome. Liverpool will feel robbed of a title, the likes of Leicester, Wolves, United and even Arsenal will feel robbed of the opportunity to compete in the CL and lose a lot of revenue in the process. And it doesn’t just stop in England, clubs from all around Europe ie Real, Celtic, Juve, PSG, etc will all feel hard done by in the likely scenario they are not awarded their titles. City’s appeal fail and they’ve already played their last European fixture for at least 2 years.

Whilst covid19 has led to worldwide panic, plunging stocks, failing businesses and mass postponements has anybody considered that it may well lead to a collapse of football’s current governing bodies?

I can’t see football being played for another 6 months

Yep maybe longer

We’re see though things could change quickly

Warm weather could help, a vaccine could sort it out, who the fack really knows.

I actually have no issue with the 22 team PL proposal (which apparently would also see Liverpool awarded the league) - I think most teams would accept it's probably the most sensible decision if we cant carry on. The only issue would be how to sort the CL places because I cant see United and Wolves being too happy with it at the moment.

Best to just wait and see how it all plays out though I guess. I dont think a single soul expects we're restarting on April 4th. Best case scenario I think is that the Euros are cancelled and we restart in May sometime.

I never said I wanted it voided, just said it’s the likely outcome
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why do you think that

Why not carry on once this situation dies down
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Right, let me play the devil's advocate and throw the financial argument back at you.

What happens to all the upcoming financial agreements and partnerships that have already been signed for the start of next season?

It would probably be cheaper to eat any financial penalties arising from writing off the remaining 9 games, than it would be for renegotiating future deals.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Tbf they may already be in jeopardy as we don’t know how long this VIRUS will go on for.

My point is there is no need to panic just yet.

An indefinite suspension is sensible, let’s just see how this goes.

3 weeks with no money coming in is bad enough for most clubs. They will probably start pressing for a quick return as soon as their revenues grind to a halt.

It won't have anything to do with the safety of their players or fans.

The only way the season is getting finished is behind closed doors. We aren't going to see footy fans at games for at least 6 months. Perhaps the rest of the year.

It'll probably be a month before we even see games behind closed doors, if at all. At the moment I think it's most likely the season doesn't end. And if it doesn't then it has to be voided.

yeah I get that we're just have to see what happens. The FA/PL will do everything they can to get some conclusion to the season though

I quite like the idea of 10 games over 40 days in june/july.

Beers, sun, and football sounds great to me

It won’t be voided, financial implications/ramifications would be minefield and football will be tied up in a legal mess for the foreseeable.
Just carry on once this bug is sorted.

Bug?

Yeah just carry on once this cold fingy is sorted.

Some idiots on here wont get it.

You can't please everyone. Whatever happens, they'll be some teams/fans left hurt and disappointed. Villa should play 2 games now to get level on games played in the eventuality that they postpone the league.

Premier League is already very lucrative as well and if you throw in Champions League money, would it even be worth it financially for them to swap that for a European Super League?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It won't be.
This is just another desperately silly article, by another cretinous idiot.

Not so silly now.
