As there's no football for a while, I thought I would get a discussion going.

In order.
1. Fernandes- early days but has given the place a huge lift with his quality and attitude.
2. AWB- quality defender and looks to be improving the attacking side of his game. Right back spot nailed down for a decade hopefully
3. Maguire- not worth 85 mill but he’s been very good lately. Not a huge upgrade on what we had in terms of quality but he’s way more dependable fitness wise and is a leader
4. Ighalo- again early days but he’s started well and looks a good option to have
5. James- he’s done ok. Started promisingly but tailed off. Can become a good player just needs to learn to get his head up as he is decent technically. Can become a very useful squad option but not sure he’ll be any more than that.

Off the top of me bounce the only United 'recent' quality signings have been (in no particular order):
Mata
Lukaku
Pogba
Fernandes (maybe premature)
James
Shaw
Maguire
Ighalo
There are also some good/useful squad level signings as well:
AWB
Darmian
Fellaini
Matic
And some great cameos from Schweinsteiger and Ibra.
United's recent problems, though, have been about not getting them (or similarly able/competent players) in a completed squad, over expectation from a very broken academy and buying in high profile wasters that were only really able to mince about in Iberian leagues.
Herrera, AdM, Coco, and Falcao were never equipped to be EPL players. Nor were Fabio, Rafael and welbeck but that's another story.

There’s no doubt in my mind that by next spring, Onion Ighalo will have himself firmly rooted in the squad.
He’ll be first pick for the boss: he sautés the way we play, and I think which ever way you slice it, we’re going to see him beet a lot of defenders.
I like him. He has a thick skin: if you chop him down, sure, he’ll bite back and make you cry; but if you roast him, he won’t be browned off.
To make sure we get the best out of him, I think we should go out and get Ruben Vinegar. I think they’d work very well together.
Etc.

So, you don't think he signing was a bit dicey?
