Players sent home to train alone

Good move to try and minimise risk of spread.

Training equipment being sent to homes and players need to adhere to regime and weigh in etc.

I think whole country goes into lockdown early next week, the sooner the better.

Keep safe everyone!

Ive shut down my club now, I'm not envisaging restarting until June.

Schools are talking about closing till end of summer term, sooner proper quarantine brought in, rather than dragging all this out, the better.

What happens to the country when everyone's at home "self isolating"

School's now going to close from Friday, exams not taking place in May and June. Anyone who thinks that football will be restarting before then is being extremely optimistic.

If self-isolating to prevent the passing on of the virus and to reduce fatality rates is what is necessary then anything less than that would be irresponsible. Not everyone can do this, like NHS workers, care workers and other areas of the public service industry. We need to think of them and do our bit to support them. They have to be able to get to work without being subjected to increased unnecessary risk. People may be carrying the virus without being aware they have it because the symptoms may not show straight away. We all have a responsibility and duty to look after ourselves and each other. I'm halfway through a brutal course of chemotherapy and my immune system has been weakened. Apart from going to hospital for treatment I stay at home for my own good. I do get anxious about the journey to hospital because it's inevitable I come into contact with the general public and who knows who is carrying what. People need to be sensible and consider others and the bigger picture. This is a global crisis and we all have a part to play. It's as simple as that.

Change the subject, which Leeds player will be training the hardest?
Reckon Harrison will be continuing to push himself as hard as he possibly can.

Should get them all those Peloton bikes so they can do some of their training together from the safety of their own homes.

Need to be a footballer to afford one!

It's insane and honestly for none teachers you might just look at it and think huh, that's lucky/unlucky but for us it's just something else.

I know all industries are going to have their own stories regarding this but I suppose I can only talk about mine.

This week has been like nothing I've ever experienced.

Monday we litrally got told to send any kid who had a cough or said they didnt feel well home. That would be it for them for two weeks.

Tuesday after Boris' Monday announcement we had a staff briefing in the morning where our head went thougn the list of people who should isolate again and basically said I cant tell you not to be here... but please dont be here. Also if you feel ill dont do that teacher thing where you struggle on, you might give this to a child who is vulnerable or has a vulnerable family member, the school supports you dont risk it.

After briefing we had to extend form time because the school needed to figure out what was going on with staff, who was staying who was going and what cover would be needed.

We ended up with 20 members of staff off for the day. At one point I literally had to cover between my class and another as we didnt have enough teachers.

My wife recently had a csection and caught sepsis so basically her immune system is shot from having to deal with that, add to the fact she has asthma and she is well within the high risk category.

So I took the decision to self isolate with her and the kids. I'm literally stuck inside the house for the foreseeable future while this plays out, I know we ain't peaking for a while and till we do (and probably for a time after that its minimum contact with anything for me)

Wednesday i spent the day trying to keep up to date with what was going on at work and by the sounds it was grim.

More staff had done what I had done and self isolated and as you can imagine our numbers took a massive hit of students as well.

I got a tonne of emails from students asking for work, most not realising I wasnt in too as they went off before me.

It was also becoming crystal clear that the decision to close was coming, because quite frankly we couldnt continue to operate as we were under the circumstances, so we knew by the end of the week were on a partial or full closure, either from a government who could see what was happening within the schools or simply from a safeguarding reason.

Then we got the schools and exam announcements and we dont know what is going to happen and how we will move forward after this week.

I know that I have a load of none teaching work such as curriculum planning and the like that needs to be done which I'll be working on over the next few weeks, probably to help keep me sane as much as to help me keep sane cause I'm now stuck in my house for a while yet.

I am also massively, massively concerned for the safety of some of my students.

I work in a school that pulls on kids from a massive sink estate. Real deprivation is their daily lives and I can pick any number whose lives have become massively much worse because of what is happening here.

I know kids going through some horrific things and who are now in a situation where they are potentially cut off from their biggest support they have. I know the government has offered food vouchers for free school meals, but dosent mean that the kid will actually get the meal, hell if they do it might be used to feed three of them instead of just them.

Kids suffering from abuse and neglect who are about to see that abuse and neglect increase ten fold. Already our school is looking at how we can potentially not just stay open for parents of key workers but also for our most vulnerable kids as much as possible.

As one of the assistant heads said to me "[childs name] is the worst kid in this school, he ain't getting excluded because if he is here I know he is safe, we get rid and that kid is in series trouble and I'm going to get a call saying they found his body" we as a school have to stay open for those kids as much as key worker kids.

As it stands we are probably going to be back in September now and already I'm starting to dread what I'm going to find out the situation is.

Matty

First off, I hope you manage to stay half sane at home for what will probably be the next few months and your mrs stays virus free and I'm sure the extra help with the baby will make things easier for her too.

My mrs works with troubled kids, she's a therapist and works within a few school with kids that really need her help, she just popped out our twins last summer and was due to go back to work this week, but now wont be back until probably after summer and she knows there are a few kids who need her help. She's trying to set up so she can still work with them whilst they are at home (over skype). Might be difficult to do with certain laws. I hope plenty of kids can still get the help they need, because I know a lot come to school and it's the only time they get fed.

Matty - a very sobering read.
( The concern about disadvantaged kids and lack of support really hits home )

All I can say is I hope your Mrs gets better soon - keep you and your family safe.

Sorry to hear this Matty, but important to say it, I think that many people genuinely do not understand what is happening and the implications.

Schools will be shut till September and are an indicator of how fragile the system is.

We have a fragile health service, workers will be off sick from that further reducing the capacity.

Many self employed etc will continue to work as they're desperate for money which erodes the impact of government initiatives to halt this thing.

Love the gov or hate them, this is the time when the country needs to do what it's told, shut up shop for 2 weeks and halt the impact.

You'll see the worst of people but also the best of people, with volunteering and looking out for each other and one has to hope that something good comes out of this bad societally in terms of how we live.

Matty, best wishes to your family from mine at this time.
