Signing older players

In the past couple of days I’ve seen articles suggesting we should sign the likes of Bale and Aubameyang.

Not for me.

We should learn from the Sanchez, Schweinsteiger and Falcao deals. Ok none of those were for huge initial fees but all were on huge wages and past their best all ultimately were epic failures here.

Not saying Bale or Auba are finished but you never know when a sharp decline will happen.

The demographics of our signings under Ole have spot on imo. He’s gone for young players who see United as a step up (hopefully the pinnacle). Also from Oles’s 4 permanent signings I think only Maguire is on massive wages (more than 100k per week).

The only time we should be looking at players in their late 20s to 30s is cheaper squad options where it seems Ighalo fits into.

We’ve showing signs of improvements and that’s why we now shouldn’t go for the quick fix option which the likes of Bale & Auba may or may not be.

Also I’ve heard we’re willing to offer Matic a further extension to the year we’ve given him. Again not for me. The situation should be reviewed in about a years time.

Anyway my point is for our main signings we should continue to look for young & hungry players.

Depends on the player and position imo.

For example, signing a CB to play with Maguire at 31/32 and had a couple of years left might not hurt us.

Depends on the fee. I’d rather give Bailly or Tuanzebe a shot.

We won't have £50 million to spare, or 30.
We will be paying a fortune on wages, and will have a greatly reduced income.

Another good point. Be interesting to see if there is any pay cuts at big clubs.
