So it looks as if the aim is to finish this season and rightly so but if that is the case it is very likely that next season won’t be starting on time.
I have a few ideas that would help shorten next season:
1. No group stages in the CL or EL. This straight away cuts 4 games from the schedule allowing 4 more league games to be played midweek.
Make it all knockout with 1st seeds playing 4th seeds in the 1st round and 2nd seeds vs 3rd seeds. Have an open draw in the last 16 but keep it the way it is regarding teams from the same nation not playing each other until the last 8.
Possibly make the qualifying rounds a once off game at a neutral venue.
2. Scrap all domestic cups for a season or at the very least the Carabao Cup and equivalent cups across Europe.
No replays in any round of any cup.
3. Scrap all international friendlies during the season
Anyone else have any ideas that would help shorten the season

Just end the season in current positions.

You cannot do that!
For example Villa have a game in hand that would take them out of the drop zone.. Any other team down there would argue that they could also escap.e
Relegating any of those teams will cost them massively and would result in a massive legal battle. Good luck getting the next season organised and started in that scenario, where potentially we are looking at a few short weeks between seasons.
Think folks have to accept that there will probably be an agreed cut off date, after which this season cannot be concluded and the only option is to call it null and void, which also means we get Poch back

Until we know when we can restart we can't really say how things should progress.
Finishing this season is a must - unless we have a scenario where it takes longer than expected to start (a lot of teams would probably go under).
If we can start this season by September then a January to October full 20/21 season can go ahead - with the Euros in Winter. This will match up with the Qatar 22 WC as well.
If it goes on later then a half season would be a good idea. I think instead of splitting it top 10 bottom 10 (or numbers to fit other leagues) you go teams who finished in odd numbered positions in one league, even in the other. Then a play off final at the end between the two winners for the title. Bottom two teams go down, and a play off to avoid the third relegation place, and so on.
Alternatively go to the good old North/South divide for one year.
Alternatively drop the cups and international football.

It is actually quite a good opportunity to line up with the 2022 world cup

Nah.
Cancel the season completely - an asterix will suffice for the nerds and stattos.
Encourage the clubs to remember, recognise and acknowledge that they started out (and still are) first and foremost, football CLUBS - well, most of them at least.
Start the whole shebang from scratch (the situation at the last concluded season)
And start at the first sensible time (i.e. start- post covid-19 wherever, whenever that is) and not before.
If some clubs are left feeling hard done by, bollix to them. Humanity trumps all.
If some clubs are negatively impacted on financially, then they are poorly managed and need to get back to the basics - i.e. being an actual football club (see above). That's up to the 'members' of that club to put right.

In what way is resuming an unfinished season an act against humanity? Other than for those supporters of clubs that have completely and utterly embarrassed themselves this season?

And continue to do so with their desperate articles and comments
Relax, sit down, stay safe and we will resume when it's safe.

people keep ignoring the money in this.
there will be a nearly 1 billion hole in the prem finances if the season doesn't get finished.
some people need to wake up a bit and forget about liverpool s title and their own little issues with relegation etc. the whole of football is affected here and every penny counts.
so work away with cancelling stuff that's a sure way to bankruptcy for a lot of clubs.

I've had a great idea to shorten next season.
let's just relegate all teams who called for the season to end early. like west ham.
Then we can have a 16 team league of real quality.
18 team max I suppose. that's pear off several boring games nobody cares about and gives more time for us to watch real football.

No teams gets relegated, top six play of for 3/4. Or 3 in lower leagues.
Current winners win and second get promoted.
Next year 4 teams go down.
