Jack Grealish

I made an article yesterday regarding positions we need to strengthen in the summer (or whenever) and Jack Grealish is a player I mentioned as we have been linked with him strongly.

Some on here said we don’t need him as other positions should be higher priority and he plays in the same position as Rashford or Bruno.

I take those points but I still feel we should go for him especially if Pogba does go.

Let’s say something happens to Bruno and he is out for a period of time then we are pretty much back to square one regardless of who we sign in attack. You could sign Sancho but if he has Lingard and Pereira constantly messing up at number 10 then even he would probably struggle.

If we could make back half the fee of what Grealish would cost by selling those two we’d be doing really well. We need strong competition.

Also look at the situation Rashford is in. He’s out injured because we are too reliant on him. At least with Grealish we could stick him there and give Rashford a breather.

Also Rashford does struggle at times against a packed defence and Grealish offers something different to Rashford.

He would also allow Rashford to play the odd game at centre forward if necessary.

In short if we can get Grealish I think we should. Fits the profile of our signings under Ole. Young, hungry and would see United as a step up.

I guess it beats replacing Pogba with a traffic cone like stretty suggested

Doubt we’ll see Grealish as a replacement for Pogba (I only entertained that if Poch came in but that looks unlikely given what’s happened with the football season).

I worry that Bellingham might be seen as a replacement if he does leave. He’s meant to be very talented but replacing Pogba with a 16 year old that has played one season in the championship would be pretty silly.

But this is Man United so would probably happen.

I think he'll be loaned back to Birmingham if we sign him. If Pogba is sold, he'll have to be replaced with a player coming in immediately into the side. Grealish may be that person.

It’s possible, but it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s brought to play as a back up while McTominay and Fred start the majority of games. In that respect Grealish isn’t a replacement for Pogba as he’s an attacker and Pogba’s been used as a cm by Ole. Or Ole changes his position or moves Bruno into a deeper position.

Villa fan in peace. Jack ain't going anywhere. He's one of us.

OK if we got relegated he might. But would still cost a lot. And we won't get relegated. Trust me on this one.

If he were to leave and join us, where do you think he'll play?

A lot depends on the future of Gomes. We still have Mata as cover for attacking mid and we’ve extended Chong’s contract as well.

I do like Grealish, and would welcome him with open arms, but we do have other areas of priority for the first team outside of depth for the attacking options he plays.

It’s also a numbers game, we’ve got a massive squad and will need to move players on when we make signings.

Shifting Pereira might be straightforward but Lingard is a different matter given his wages and his lack of ability, which makes him harder to shift.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Gomes looks like he’s off, Mata isn’t quite up to it anymore and Chong isn’t ready and may never be good enough.

Regarding Lingard that’s what Everton and West Ham are for.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Mata would be the best backup number ten in the league, and playing second fiddle to a guy who has appeared in more than thirty league games each of the last five seasons.

Ahhh rosso’s just reminded me of something, we’ll also have Sanchez back to cover lw, rw, cf and number 10.

No doubt he loves Villa but I’d be very surprised if he’s a Villa player next season regardless of what division you are in.
