So what`s everybody`s take now

on when football will resume in the UK? A lot has happened over the past couple of weeks, and with the Chief Medical Officers coming out yesterday, and saying we could be in lockdown for another six months minimum, then thereafter still keeping social distancing, it don`t sound too promising. I will stick to my original prediction of two or three weeks back, that there will be no football this calendar year, and at the very earliest it will be 2021 before a ball is kicked.

Very pessimistic I know, but all the soundings from Government, Scientists and the Medical Profession is that this is going to be very long-term, before anything approaching normality is returned to even going out on a regular basis.

Not sure how contracts, TV deals are going to pan out, but it is going to be messy.

This season will always be illegitimate after everything that has gone on, whatever happens, whether it is completed or binned, there is no way it can be concluded fairly and within the morals of the game.

Nah you’ve been saying it will be voided, now you’re adding this caveat in

The bet is voided or season finished, no provisos/caveats get outs

A simple bet, don’t bottle it for heaven’s sake.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Haha, I'm not but I've said from the moment the footie stopped that the powers that be will priortise playing the whole of next season over finishing a quarter of this one.

I've never discussed (until now) what would happen in the unlikely event of no football until the new year.

Surely a couple of powerful brains like ours can sort the bet around that?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Too complicated I’m afraid and you’re starting to sound somewhat sensible now. I don’t agree about them sacrificing the last games of this season for next though as it will kill the integrity of competition. Not to mention the financial ramifications through the divisions.

We’ll have to wait and see.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes we will.

Sorry to sound sensible but for me this has never been an anti Liverpool thing I just happen to think that football will restart around August time and under those circumstances it will be regarded as a better option to play the 20/21 season in full at the expense of finishing this one.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
August?

If football is back by August I can personally guarantee this season will be completed. It will have to go beyond August IMO.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They could start in October and ditch the domestic cups. The integrity of league is the most important thing here.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

All integrity would go if they dumped cups in favour of the league. It would make a complete mockery of football. It has to be all or nothing.

Of course things are not normal. I wouldn`t be surprised if this season and next season both get dumped. Maybe just play cup competitions next season. Should have time to maybe fit them in over perhaps a four or five month period. Certainly would not have time for league games.

Then reset completely for season 2021-22. Makes sense. Wouldn`t be the end of the world, competitive football stopped for six years from 1939-1945, during the war. A couple of years off now wouldn`t be the end of the world.

So it would be ok to only play cup competitions, but not to only play league fixtures? That's hardly "all or nothing".

But if it's just cup competitions next season then that gives plenty of time for this season to be finished.

This is where we disagree I don't think theres a cat in hells chance of it finishing if the footie returns around that time.

City and Utd could have 18/19 games to play which is going to take well over 2 months to complete. Even without a gap between the 2 seasons the 20/21 season would be too late starting to get it all done unless the Euros were moved again (which won't happen).

In my opinion the money men will see preserving the whole 20/21 season as more important than having a surreal Autumn finish to the 19/20 one.

This means little to no football for what? 2 years?

I struggle to find a club that would survive your suggestion financially. They'd all be wound up by then. Where will the wages and money to run the football organisations come from with no TV money and no bodies through turnstiles?

TV companies are losing subscribers fast at the moment and would have the right to claim rebates of 762m if this season isn't finished. And that's this season alone. If next season is not provided the league could be wound up and we start afresh
