Ready for service

After being postponed due to unfavourable weather, onlookers were growing eager to see RMS Titanic in action 108 years ago today.

RMS Titanic departed Belfast at 6 a.m. on her sea trials and for the first time is photographed moving under her own steam. The sea trials consisted of a skeleton crew of stokers, greasers, firemen.

Her 40-miles journey along the Irish sea takes roughly 12 hours, under the command of Captain Herbet Haddock. The journey to Southampton would prove to be an uneventful one, and satisfied the requirements of the British Board of Trade, which certifies her ready for service.

Seems, that Herbert Haddock died in his bed in Southampton, many years after the Titanic went down.

Unpopped popcorn kernels have been dubbed "old maids" in popular slang, since like unmarried women who never had children, the kernels do not "pop".
