Really good piece in The Athletic on the issue of contracts hindering any extension of season and also the lack of provision in football contracts regarding this situation.
I mentioned some weeks back that contracts ending end of June will be an issue.
Slovakian club liquidating as players refused wage cut, we are going to have this happen over here as players are not contractually invoices to take any cuts.
I believe we’ll see the tv companies stop paying money, the clubs ask players to take cuts, not all players accepting that. Additionally not all players will want contracts extended and without unilateral agreements the leagues will just be declared void, I believe the RFU have just announced that one of there competitions has been voided, as more if these decisions are made the likelihood of others following increases.

I guess we'll have to wait and see if the recommendation is voted through.
But for now, it's still a recommendation, not a definite.
Think that UEFA's letter will have a big impact of their decision.

Sounds like Belgium was a "special case" as they'd played 29 out of 30 matches and FC Brugge were 15 points ahead at the top.
Also, Belgian football’s TV deal is small by way of comparison to other European leagues, so not so much pressure in that direction either.

Belgian league works like the SPL in that they play 30 then the league splits in two. Then the points are halved or something stupid and the top league and bottom league play on...something like that anyway.
The only thing I really took from what I read is that I won't be choosing a Belgian team on Football Manager anytime soon

You might well have done. But Guardian certainly reporting that the clubs still need to think about UEFA's stance *before* voting on it.
Not much of a reader of the Belgian press, so couldn't confirm either way!

None of the options would have particularly benefitted or befouled us. We've obviously now got to earn our right to be in the division which is exactly how it should be.
Same with you guys. You deserve the right to finish what you've started and I fully expect you to grasp the opportunity.
The Premier League have done the right thing in forwarding the solidarity payments too, which should take the strain off of those who were no doubt starting to panic a bit.
I just really hope for the good of football and the interests of fairness, that the FA take the opinions and concerns of the semi pro sides into consideration and open up discussions to see if they can possibly finish their seasons too seing as they seem fairly unanimous in wanting to do so.

That was exactly my thought - one game left to play, Bruges ahead by 15 points. They clinched the title a few games ago, at least 3.
All of these decisions need to be made on a case-by-case basis. What works for the Prem and EFL, will not work for tennis as tennis is a global game with players flying in from all corners of the earth to play tournaments.
I am disappointed to read that many people here think sectors of the sporting world, e.g., tv companies are approaching this from a selfish standpoint. They are well aware that professional football is the golden goose from which they get beautiful eggs. To think they will risk slaying the goose for 19/20 revenue is very naive, in my view.
The best solution I have seen offered so far is the creation of world cup style camps - one for each team, one for referees, one for ambulance and health personnel. Frequent testing across the board, with 2 games per week to be played to complete the season behind closed doors.
Now before I get accused of not caring for anyone's health or putting football before life, this is predicated upon the approval of health authorities.
While I am diametrically opposed to economy before health, one only needs to watch the English Game on Netflix to get an appreciation of what sport, in particular football, plays in the psychological well being of the general public.
Restarting football, albeit on tv, without live crowds, will be therapeutic for the country and beyond its borders. Some might so it is essential for the mental well-being of a vast majority of us.
My opinion, feel free to fire away.
I sincerely hope all of you and your families are healthy, physically, mentally and economically, and keeping up your spirits.

Just heard on Sky Sports News from earlier today that Prem will forward monies due to EFL and lower leagues early as well as donating £20m to NHS and other causes.
Not as greedy as some make out eh? Doubtlessly some will scoff and say that is a drop and they could do more.
