Has the corona virus affected you

negatively in a financial way?

Anyone on here been laid of temporarily or permanently due to Covid-19? Anyone have to take a pay cut?

In the UK are the government doing enough to protect these people do you think?

In Ireland the government are giving anyone unable to work due to the corona virus €350 a week which is about €150 more than standard unemployment benefit so at least they have acted.

That being said €350 isn’t much if you were used to earning much more and have a family to feed and a mortgage to pay.

It’s a tough one but unfortunately it looks like many will struggle long after this is over.

Never been unemployed in my life, but 2 weeks before everything kicked off, I’d left my last place voluntarily as I wanted a few weeks break and I had a new job lined up.

Anyway, cut to 2 weeks later, the new job offer was rescinded, and my old job already filled. By the time the Gov stepped in, I was caught between 2 companies who I wasn’t a concern for (as they’ll have had bigger fish to fry)

So I find myself currently unemployed, with a solid CV and a ton of of professional experience and skill sets, without any kind of job market. Applied for delivery driver roles, stock assistants, but no joy (no real feedback as to why)

Applied for Universal Credit last week, but obviously a million people have also done the same, so absolutely nothing back as yet, and when I do...well it’s £410 a month....

So basically I WANT to work, I NEED to work, but here I am. Waiting for benefits.

Were you still employed by your old company on the 28th February? If so, they can re-hire you regardless of whether you left voluntarily and furlough you under the government scheme. They dont have to do it, but there is nothing stopping them.

I know this because my wife started a new job on 9th March and wouldn't be eligible for furlough in her new firm, but could have been in her old job if they hadn't taken her on. Fortunately she is working from home throughout this though.

Financially it doesn't affect me at all, as I am a pensioner. My main concern is trying to stay clear of the virus. I am basically indoors now 24/7.

👌

I’m having a great time. So many mates have been screwed over though I’ve not been able to shout about it!

Aside from supermarkets shutting earlier zero has changed for me on a normal day-to-day basis. Grateful to be able to get out of the house for 6-8 hours a day.

I'm pretty much financially fccked.

I'm not on furlough, they've said our working week is two days now with salaries pro rata, for the next twelve weeks.

I'm doing 60 hours a week trying to make sure we've got a business to go back to but getting paid for 16. I'd be better off right now doing fck all and getting 80% of my wage.

I’m in video production and nothing much has changed for me, I’m getting my footage sent to me at home.

I have a mate who’s a doctor though and his paranoia has increased. He has to work with hardly any protection, no testing and then has to return home to his young family and hope he hasn’t got anything that he’ll pass on.

He brought his own mask online and was told he can’t use it, they have him a crappy surgical mask that doesn’t seal your mouth.
