Silent Solent

The British Board of Trade, certified her ready for service. RMS Titanic... it’s time to go.

Titanic sails from Belfast for Southampton, where she’ll receive provisions in preparation for her maiden departure. During the trip, she works up to a speed of slightly more than 23 knots, the highest speed she would ever reach. Edward J. Smith, R.N.R., is transferred from the Olympic. At midnight on April 3, 1912, Titanic came alongside her berth in the silent waters of the Solent and docked at Southampton.
