Our next number 7

Let’s be fair the number 7 shirt has been a bit of a disaster for over a decade now since CR7 left.

There’s plenty of talk that Sancho will be at United very soon and more than likely will be offered the great number 7 shirt as a bargaining tool. Maybe it would be best we don’t give him that shirt right away and maybe make him earn it. It’s still the most iconic shirt number at United.

For one reason or another every player who has worn it since hasn’t been up to it for one reason or another.

Michael Owen

Was useful for us at times and scored a few important goals but was well past his best when he joined due to injuries. A younger peak Michael Owen may have been befitting of being United’s number 7. This version wasn’t. He was never signed to be 1st choice so should never have been given the shirt.

Antonio Valencia

The only time since Beckham that we have promoted from within so to speak. Again never felt he was the right fit for the shirt. He was a good player for us no doubt but never had the arrogance needed to fill the shirt. Had a poor season as soon as he was given the shirt and asked to go back to number 25 the following season.

Angel Di Maria

Came with a big price tag and reputation and looked promising early days. Probably never really wanted to be here and it all turned sour quite quickly. Lasted a season.

Memphis Depay

Again came with a big reputation but never lived up to the hype. Seemed to be a big time Charlie without backing it up. Has done well enough at Lyon but I suspect that may be his level.

Alexis Sanchez

Disaster of a signing that is still harming us. Was exciting at the time but in hindsight the signs were there that he was in decline. One of our worst ever signings considering his wages.

In my opinion I think we should keep the shirt vacant for at least one more season and give to who deserves it most whether that be Bruno, Greenwood, Sancho if he signs or maybe some one else rather than just gift it to someone as we have been doing.

If Sancho does come to United, I would give him the number 7 straight away.

Champs League football will be a bigger bargaining tool than a shirt number. So can’t see him joining either Manchester club this summer!
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He's a massive Chelsea fan so if they can match the numbers quoted then he'll most likely end up there.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Possibly. Time will tell.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They won’t though. We are stupid enough to outbiid Everyone to record levels for a one season player, with a bit of promice
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He’s being doing it for 2 seasons now and has just turned 20. Don’t think it would be crazy to spend big on him.

I think Rashford should be given first refusal.

Maybe but he already has 10 which is also prestigious.

It will be interesting to see who gets 7 & 11.

11 hasn’t been filled properly since Giggs.

We haven’t had anyone who’s played any kind of traditional number 11 role since Giggs have we really?

If James was consistently playing on the left side, he’d probably be closest.

The only one of those good enough was Di Maria, and LVG messed that by messing him about.

Surely just give it to the best player you have in that position at the time? Unfortunate that they've been mostly naff lately

Sancho, Woodward’s is thinking of the shirt sales.

Why would he be thinking of shirt sales? Adidas pay you 75m a year for that privilege, or do you get a percentage of sales in that contract too?

Man United selling lots of shirts is good for the brand.
