While other clubs are cutting non-playing staff's wages the United First team have agreed to a 30% reduction of their months wages, with all monies to go direct to the NHS

It might only be for a month (for now) but what a fantastic gesture this would be if it does indeed go through.

I wouldn’t say they’ve been forced into it - if Gordon Taylor had his way the players would have kept all their money
I’m willing to believe in a pandemic the players aren’t so out of touch that they would just say fack you to the fans etc. It’s a lot easier to donate money when there is a blanket amount agreed with the PL and that was done yesterday
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hmm, perhaps, still I don’t think it’s much to be proud of, as effectively they’ve just made sure that 30% cut goes to a good place. Didn’t pep donate 920k to help fight it in Spain? Makes the players ‘feature’ look a bit shiiit. Still I’m glad they didn’t just take the cut, and proactively made sure it went to a good place. Kudos for that at least.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not sure you can compare pep to players like Rashford and co, their wealth is worlds apart at the moment.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I’m not saying I’d expect Rashford to do that, far from it. Sone of the wealthier senior pros perhaps have even more money than pep. My point was that it’s being forced on them anyway, they’ve just elected to ensure it goes to a good place, which is great, but it doesn’t exactly make them mother Theresa.
Though if it results in other players in other clubs doing similar, then it’s a good start.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Football is a short career, not many will go on to earn what pep does after retirement.
A lot of these players come from poor backgrounds and provide for more than themselves. Not to mention they'll have cash tied up in assets. I'd be surprised if many have millions sat in the bank.
Sure they'll never be poor if they invest wisely, but anybody giving up wages to support the country right now should be applauded not criticised.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think the pertinent question would be, would they have given up any wages unless forced (like they have been)?

I am confused by all of this tbh.
the PL keep insisting they will finish the season. so why are they worried about having to repay tv money?
why are clubs furloughing staff when this is essentially the summer break brought forward and the summer to be replaced by the end of the season?
take Liverpool for example, they haven't had to repay TV money, Season tickets or Sponsorship money so why are they furloughing? do they furlough in the summer when there's no football for 3 months?

I was impressed to see Rashford last week donating money to ensure poor kids get fed with schools shutting down - impressed with the gesture but also the maturity and humility of his perspective as he talked about growing up poor, on free school meals. He really does seem a fine human being, and deserves everything he achieves in the coming years.

like barca, maybe their day to day cashflow is low. so they are stuck. all that money on van dijk and the pawn star means they are not liquid.

So they had a truckload iof cash given to them like most pl clubs, and overspent? Tough shiiit.
The onus should be pay the staff, players secondary. That’s the stance I’d take. If you need to cull before a hand out, highest earners first, whether board, exec, playing staff.

United's players have duped everyone. Soon enough the reason they decided to break tanks from other players and the PFA will soon become clear.
You're all sheep.
