5 albums you recommend others to listen to.

Good morning.

Another day of being stuck at home starts. If you are like me then a lot of the day music will be playing. Whether you are doing DIY jobs, sitting in the garden, working out, you need a soundtrack.
So if you had to name 5 albums you think everyone should listen to at least once what would you say?

Mine are:
1 - What's Going On - Marvin Gaye
From the title track to the masterpiece Inner City Blues (Make me wanna holler) this is the standout album of Marvins catalogue, imo. The greatest soul singer of them all.

2 - 36 Chambers - Wu Tang Clan
Not the greatest rap album, but it is certainly up there. This is chosen because the diverse, something for most, aspect of the group. From the wildness of ODB, to the smoothness of Meth, via the genius of GZA, gangster rap of Rae, storytelling of Deck and Ghost.

3 - Sticky Fingers - The Rolling Stones
The 2nd and 3rd greatest people from Dartford arguably reached the heights with this album. Starts with Brown Sugar and continues with the likes of Wild Horses, the soulful I Got the Blues and Can't you hear me knockin.

4 - Blue Lines - Masive Attack
The debut from one of the most influential British groups of the 90s. The massive single Unfinished Sympathy and Safe From Harm utilising Shara Nelson to great effect, Five Man Army and Daydreaming giving Tricky a platform. A great starting place when it comes to the trip-hop sound.

5 - Honey - Ohio Players
A musical masterpiece. The title track sets things off to a high standard, Sweet Sticky Thing continues the theme. The well known (thanks to Beavis, Butthead and the RHCP) Love Rollecoaster is on here. Half an hour of ear pleasure.

So what are your five. If I don't know them I will probably put them on at some point this week.

So many I gave up, couldn't pick only 10.

Like most of them posted here, those I know anyway.

That's the trick of the question. Anyone can give a list of albums they think are great, but to choose just 5 of them makes you think harder.

exactly, and 50% of respondents failed to limit to 5 and just listed their favorite albums
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I limited it to three

I saw your list up there and actually remembered you were not very keen on Trouble Will Find Me. I doubt you were into the latest but I'm curious what you think about Sleep Well Beast.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well remembered!

There's some great songs on TWFM - some of my all time favourites by them. I Should Live In Salt... Pink Rabbits... Sea Of Love...

But for a long time I had a real problem with This Is The Last Time and Graceless, and it kinda blew the record for me. Actually in recent times I've come to quite like Graceless, so it's not a problem at all now, as it's a lot easier to deal with now that it's not two songs following each other.

Sleep Well Beast was a disappointment though. Again there are some great songs on it, but overall it doesn't work for me as an album. Maybe it'll make sense one day, and I'm totally open to that still happening, but even when I saw them play live on that tour, I ended up coming away disappointed - I've seen them 4-5 times now, and it was the only time I've not enjoyed it.

In fairness to the show, I had just seen Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds a few nights earlier, and they were so so good. I'd seen them a couple of times previously and really enjoyed seeing them. But the Skeleton Tree shows... they took it up so many levels. Easily in my top 5 favourite concerts of all time
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Actually TWFM has grown into a stonewall classic for me, up there with their best but weakest of the 4. SWB also took so long to grow on me but it is a 8.5/10 now; the only song I do not like from it is the closer

If I was to post the albums I think are great I would have posted 100 not 10. I decided to post 10 from what would be a pretty diverse list encompassing quite a number of genres.
