Season to be cancelled?

https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/premier-league-to-cancel-season-21832866

The Premier League is to announce the season is over, according to the director of an Italian club owned by Watford.

Udinese's Pierpaolo Marino made the claim after the Belgium league announced an end to the season and declared Club Brugge as champions. UEFA warned such action could affect entry into European competitions next season.

The Premier League has given no date for a re-start of matches.

But Marino told Sportitalia: “The Belgian Federation has already sanctioned the end of their league, despite the threats of sanctions from UEFA.

“In England, the Premier League is about to release a similar statement, because the situation there is becoming very, very serious. I frankly just hope we can enjoy football again after the coronavirus.

“It doesn’t matter how long it takes, we need to get out of this danger zone.

Watford and Udinese are both owned by the Pozzo family.

The Hornets were in 17th place when the Premier League was suspended last month and only out of the bottom three on goal difference.

need to either void it or complete it... you cant just end it early and award European places relegation and the title etc which have not yet been earned. teams haven't even played the same amount of games ffs.... takes away the integrity of the whole thing
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Not saying I agree with it, but it’s possible. They did it in Belgium.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Every team had played the same amount of games in Belgium, and they only had one game left.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

But they changed the format scrapping playoffs that would impact the final standings of that season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep they had 11 games left.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We're 25 points clear. We don't even need to win a game to win the league ffs.

In Belgium, after the cutoff Bruges would have been 7 points clear and therefore plausible they could be caught, in the playoffs. Not to mention UEFA's statement.

“A joint management of calendars is strictly required as the conclusion of the current season must be co-ordinated with the start of the new one, which may be partly impacted because of the overstretch.

Since participation in UEFA club competitions is determined by the sporting result achieved at the end of a full domestic competition, a premature termination would cast doubts about the fulfilment of such condition,” the letter added.

“UEFA reserves the right to assess the entitlement of clubs to be admitted to the 2020/21 UEFA club competitions, in accordance with the relevant applicable competition regulations.”

The season will be cancelled very soon we can all then sit down with some popcorn and watch the greedy PFA led by the most grotesque money grabber on the planet Gordan Taylor and players argue with the clubs about their precious contracts as the big TV companies come calling for the £1 billion plus they are owed. Furloughing a few hundred staff using government money is not going to cut it. The clubs are going to be in it up to their necks (aside from corrupt state sponsored ones)
Maybe just maybe then some clubs will think twice about being a middleman passing TV mega bucks straight to agents and players and some sense of perspective will ensue with more realistic weekly wages for players and looking after loyal fans with reasonable season ticket prices. I'm not holding my breath
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Or we just finish the season as planned.

Didn't Gordan Taylor donate £500k of his own money to the NHS?

Yawn, if its cancelled we're be champions

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why?

Liverpool haven't secured enough points to be crowned Champions.

Club Brugge had.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
they will use current league standings.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not for me. They've either win it because they secure enough points or not at all.

Won't lose sleep over it if the FA do declare them Champions but ya know.

Club Brugge hadn't mathematically won it. There were 11 games left.
