Off-topic - People that wear masks rant

I went shopping earlier and the amount of people that were wearing masks earlier annoyed me, They should be given them to the likes of Doctors and Nurses in the NHS.

I dunno why you're deleting comments matth.

To be immortalised like that is pretty cool mate and if you're not embarrassed by shouting 'WHY?' at the world about football then WHY that?

Ah yes, you can only make an observation about another country if you live there

The evidence for supporting the use of face masks out in public is limited at best.

The WHO recommends the use of masks only for healthy people if they are taking care of someone with suspected COVID-19 or if they are coughing and/or sneezing themselves (although you should be following isolation protocol if you suspect you have COVID-19).

I heard Americans have been advised to use fabric/cloth instead to ease the strain on suppliers of masks in order to provide them for healthcare staff first. However, there is also little evidence which supports the notion that DIY masks are effective. Many materials have a much lower filter efficiency instead of masks used solely for medical use.

I suspect some who are going out and about with a mask on aren't using them appropriately either. In terms of handling the mask with unwashed hands (after touching a contaminated surface), using it for prolonged periods of time and poor methods of disposal. They may also provide a false sense of security for some, and lower their adherence to complementary measures such as social distancing.

The WHO are completely out of touch with what the research says. Even common sense tells you they haven't got a clue what the feck they're talking about.

If a person has the virus but is asymptomatic, they'll never know when to wear the mask. If a person does have symptoms, sometimes they don't appear until 14 days. By then they've probably spread the virus to 100 other people.

Whoever is reading this, by surgical gloves, masks and use anti bac wipes to clean your food products when you get home.

Apparently anti bacterial wipes don’t really do anything because it’s viral.

I went shopping yesterday and there was a young woman coughing and barking in the aisles. She probably does not have the virus and just a cough, but surely anybody with any kind of symptom resembling a common cold should be staying at home in these times. Some people are just so thick.

Could easily be hayfever at the moment to be fair.

The masks they are wearing are every likely not protective enough for front line work.

I would recommend that you done a video about the virus and put it all out there

and it's also possible that that person has no food left at home, no relatives/friends/neighbours willing to go and purchase food for them, and unable to book a delivery slot in a near enough timeframe for a home delivery to be of use.
you can't just blanket ban a person from going out to buy food because they happen to have a cough.
you have no idea what their circumstances are and are therefore in no position to pass judgment on their behaviour or intellect.

Surgical masks are pointless and offer very little protection, there’s no effective seal and the thin fabric will not stop droplets getting through. The problem with people wearing those flimsy things is it can give them a false sense of belief that they are protected and don’t need to follow social distancing as much.

The only effective face mask is one that is FFP3 rated. Even then if you don’t use it properly (which members of the public won’t) you risk contaminating the mask and yourself. FFP3 masks aren’t recommended by the government for public use simply because they don’t have enough for NHS frontline staff - and that’s the priority.

If we all had FFP3 masks and knew how to use them then it would be a very effective measure imo

If I’m honest that’s an unlikely combination. You’re describing a young woman there who has no friends willing to get her food and no family willing to get her food and absolutely no food in the house. That’s pretty unusual - I mean basically a young person that lives as a hermit and has no social connections. If you were talking about an elderly woman I could completely understand that.

This is likely to be someone who hasn’t planned very well, needs a few bits and probably wants to get out the house after being stuck indoors
