Part of one of the greatest teams

Ever.

Should have won more

But the greatest compliment is

Every football fan of that era could roll that team off with ease.

Every player

Never been a team like that

Norman on those times

Many thanks for that great video from a great man. What a loss to our club. Many thanks to our Norman conquest RIP.

It was all thanks to Don Revie. As Giles has said the likes of Hunter, Madeley, Cooper, Reaney were not even the most naturally gifted, but they were expertly coached by Revie's staff from a young age. so much so that when they eventually played they were not mere hatchet men but genuinely great ball players and had extremely high levels of fitness. When added the more natural talents like Giles, Gray, Lorimer, Bremner, you have a great team.

Long time reader/observer, first time poster - I guess the isolation stuff finally pushed me over the edge to actually connect.

Couldn't agree more with Wakey's comment, but it's even more remarkable when you think that unlike today, with all the saturated TV and media coverage - in those days, it was a special treat if you got to see YOUR team for a few minutes of highlights on MotD, or Sportsnight - it certainly wasn't a weekly thing.

What helped establish the awareness/legend was how long that team stayed together. With the sad news of Norman's passing we are reminded that he played for Leeds 726 times. More amazingly, he's only 4th on the list, behind Reaney, Charlton and Bremner. Close behind Norman - Lorimer and Madeley, each with 700+ too. But for injuries, I'm sure Eddie Gray would have been right up there, and they all played at the same time!

Contrast that with one of the more successful teams of recent years - Man City. Most appearances by any player from this period is David Silva with 423.

Lastly, picking up on Leedsforever's comment about expert coaching making the difference, making the sum greater than the parts. It has a nice contemporary ring about it with Bielsa's team. We live in hope, once this current nightmare is over. Is it too much to ask that Marcelo add 6 words of English to his limited vocabulary to motivate the team across the finish line - Let's do this for Norman!

yeah, my Dad, like most old pro's still sing the praises of the manage and the players, very telling that all these years later they are still talked about.

One thing it triggers in my mind is Marcello Bielsa, a lot of his critics try to point to the lack of trophies, but if look beyond that, what he's done, and still doing for football surely trumps that.
