What country?

What country would you live in if for some reason there was a passport amnesty and you could choose a country to go live, work and grow old in?

Would you stay in the one you already live in? Or is there some dream country you wish you had the ability to live and work in but right now you just can’t?

I would live in Kashmir.

My family are from there and I have visited on occasions.

Some of the issues persist that others have voiced. So poverty and people wanting to make a quick buck off you.

But it's so laid back and Serene and for every person trying to make a quick buck off you there are others who go out of their way to be nice.

A quick story. I was there in about 95 and was looking for some sports equipment (cricket). Went into a shop where the keeper was about to have a cup of tea. He called for another cup and offered it to me then proceeded to tell me which shop would be better for me as it was cheaper than him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
As a place to live it looks incredible, poor, and without decent amenities but for visuals...wow.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

There are in essence 2 parts. Where my family are from is not the "disputed" bit. So we have relative calm.

The real visuals are in the disputed territory. Absolutely gorgeous. The lake village is stunning

I was surprised to see so many European visitors. Mainly German on my visit.

I remember speaking to a person who had been held hostage by the mujahideen in the 80s. He said his experience was surreal. He was treated like royalty and given presents when released. His captors had been apologetic saying they were sorry for taking him hostage but it was to highlight their plight to the western media. Who at the time were not talking about the Kashmir situation. He actually said he enjoyed the experience and returned regularly for holidays
----------------------------------------------------------------------
When I got to Delhi I had sone time to kill in pahar Hank (fracking mental place) and done guy kept hustling me about buying a carpet, so to kill some time I humoured him and drank chai with him.

‘You wanna but carpet?’
Me: ‘no, I’m away round Rajasthan on local buses, wtf am I going to do with a carpet?’
‘No you carry. On back’
Me: errr, no’
Him: ‘where you go after Rajasthan?’
Me:‘goa the south, maybe kerela ’
Him’: ‘NO NO NO! ‘
Me: ‘right...’
Him: ‘don’t go there. Go to Kashmir. Stay in a boat. You trust me, it will blow mind! It is the best India has to offer, you will love!’

I had tickets, already booked to head south, and limited time, but one day I will head back over and check out the north. It looks epic.

14-18 for me. Would detest living in a hot country, even a 2 week holiday and the hot weather becomes tedious and irritating.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah but you do basically spend all day indoors watching footy
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No, I spend a lot of time outside. If I were indoors it wouldn't matter as I can control the temperature.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a sister in London who is like you DJ.

She plans her holidays to coincide with Southern winters. The beaches, venues and attractions are much more sparsely populated and everything is cheaper (low season) at this time and she enjoys herself with her friends.

It truly is beautiful

You can pretty much get all seasons depending where you go too.

I have seen soldiers training in the snow in shorts and t-shirt

Some of the mountainous regions take some getting used to of using public transport. Never been scared so much in my life
