Racism in China

Well, this is hardcore. Started initially against Blacks but now covers all foreigners.

For those who are quick to call Boris a racist just because of a newspaper article many years ago, well, this is what actual racism looks like.
Where a person is not allowed to lodge in an hotel or ride on public transport primarily because of their ethnicity.

Strange that the left has been quiet about this so far. Can you imagine the outrage if the Donald or Boris did anything close.

It makes no sense on any level - pragmatic or moral - to point to the crimes of someone else far away.

What a cop out
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You have it exactly backwards (unsurprisingly). It’s much, much less convenient to address issues for which you can actually do something about than it is to say “but look over there!”.

You get to point at ‘them’ once you’ve dealt with your own house first.

The “cop out” is deflecting from our own responsibilities, actions and consequences. This isn’t debatable or negotiable. You wouldn’t herald the courage (pragmatic or moral) of a Russian commissar in the 60’s pointing to the crimes of some far away state, like Haiti or something, no matter how true his words. You’d ask why that person wasn’t dissenting against their own state’s crimes, first.

Normally this doesn’t need to be spelled out, but I appreciate the house contrarian needs to play his part at all times.

People in the west like to criticise dictatorships, whilst being in denial of how their governments prop them up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Who here is saying that there aren’t problems at ‘home’ though?

No one is defending the UK. Most on here have the ability to both criticise the UK and China and there’s zero moral problems with doing so.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
By all means criticise both. I take issue with those who ignore the UK and US role in arming and supporting many of this dodgy regimes.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Agreed. There’s zero moral difference in slating your own country and also China

Or use it to political point score to cover for inadequacies of their own government. Which is what this thread is all about.

I'm on the left, and think it's abhorrent. I don't think that proves anything. Because I think most people do.

I generally agree with you Berba, but not this time
Case in point, if everybody points out Chinese racism it may shame them into change, they would not like to lose face.
Nothing wro with pointing out.the sins of other countries, so long as it does not deflect you from trying to put right sins in your own

The OP is full of shyyte.

What rock have you been living under, Mr Mankini?

The past few weeks have been nothing but uproar against the reactionary racist policies of the Guangdong Provincial authority.

JA606 continues to plumb ever deeper depths as it gradually turns into yet another *Chan site with teenage-level partisan political commentary such as this.

What you’re describing is mass coordinated pressure to try and stop something. I’m on board with that completely. It requires *action* - on a major scale. Action is often inconvenient, which just proves my point further. Remember it was Mancini who suggested that “the left” (whatever he means by that) only engage in issues if it’s convenient to them. He doesn’t do irony, apparently.

My entire point was that Mancini’s sitting on his back side writing posts on a football forum about something about something happening on the other side of the world in order to make himself feel better couldn’t be more convenient. It requires no action and is purely self serving.

On the other hand, those who engage in dissent against the (very many) crimes (almost exclusively conducted abroad) by our own government(s) are in the greatly less convenient position. It also has a moral and pragmatic value that sitting behind a computer and simply saying “oh that thing is bad over there” just doesn’t have.

I stress agin that what you’re describing - some level of coordinated action - is quite distinct what Mancini is doing.

,
Dont have a breakdown just because Mancini is offering the most basic push back on the general narrative
