Let’s forget the current predicament we find ourselves in and just talk football. I don’t know about you guys, but I find it really hard to watch the Ajax semi final without getting a sense of a gutting feeling. Don’t get me wrong, at the time it was one of the greatest feelings and moments of my Spurs supporting life. I was at work on a nightshift and I literally ran from each office in my empty workplace screaming like a f*** lunatic. I’m pretty certain if someone walked in, they would of sectioned me on the spot.
But I look at that game now with disappointment. I don’t see it as a great moment anymore purely because of the disappointment of a final that followed. All it reminds me of is of a CL that should of been. I could just about take it if Liverpool were outstanding and we were no match for them, but at the end of the day, Liverpool were bang average that night.
If there was one game that was there for the taking, it was that game. We fluffed our lines like us Spurs fans are used to and I honestly don’t think I’m over it still. It still pains me to this day. Ajax was a great moment, but at the end of the day it meant nothing in the end. We lost the final and that’s all it will be remembered for.

Spurs will never make the CL final again in our lifetimes.

Just turned 34 and I’ll stand by it, Spurs will never make a CL final again in my lifetime. Why is it so ridiculous mate ? Our last European final was 84 before I was born, which was over 30 years ago mate so why is it ridiculouswe are not a Manu or Liverpool let’s be honest. CL finals don’t come around often for a club like Spurs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s possible we won’t. It’s more that you’ve just said there’s no chance it will happen. Things can change in football. 15 years ago City would never have been considered to win the PL, then they got taken over
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Spurs just don’t get that luck mate sorry

Yup, nobody knows what is around the corner. My first year of supporting Spurs, they were bottom of the table, and narrowly avoided relegation. Two years later they won the Double. Football has a habit of changing very quickly.

Your era of Spurs are completely different to my era of bottlers. Different time mate.

Liverpool were a far better team than us, so don't think we blew anything. We did incredibly well and used plenty of luck to get that far.
If we hadn't gone 1 down straight away then Liverpool would not have sat back as much and would most likely have beaten us playing more adventurously.
They had the best defence and keeper in world football, no disgrace not scoring against them. They also had the experience of the previous year to help them.
I'll always look back on that run fondly. Will be a while until we can compete at that level again.

It was a great run considering we squeaked out of the group, but I can't re-watch the semi knowing what came after.

Not really Don, Spurs lost three semi-finals in a row 1948, 1953, 1956. Throw in the 1922 losing semi-final, that would make it four in a row. Spurs hadn`t reached a final for 40 years, from 1921 until 1961.

'That semi final'
The first thing I thought of before reading the article was the 91 FA cup semi final. The 2019 CL semi final does not come close to that and not just because we went on to lift a trophy.

Hod I was a bit to young for that but I still agree that winning a trophy is so much bigger and better than losing a CL final. I’d rather not be in the CL if we’re going to get to finals and lose it all the time. Getting to the final is not an achievement for me, winning it is. Until Spurs fans and the whole club change that mentality, we will always be nearly men. You never get Chelsea or their supporters claim what a fantastic achievement was getting to the cl final and losing to united on penalties that time. They dusted themselves off and went onto win the CL a few seasons after.

Maybe Spurs will do the same Don.
