know anyone who has had it or died from it?

A family I know have all had it, mum, dad and both kids. The mum is a key worker in childcare looking after kids of NHS staff. Someone up the road from me told my wife their husband has just come out of hospital with it. A relative of a girl my daughter went to a youth club with died from it.

Of course. The weight of historical evidence suggests that second waves are usually worse, as people behave too confidently in the belief that the danger has passed. It will also prove very difficult to shut things down again once they have been opened.

I'm in Germany and face masks will be mandatory from Monday. They don't recommend masks with filters, largely because of supply issues. However, a hepa vacuum bag between two sheets of cotton will work just fine, provided there is no fibre glass in it. I believe women's sanitary pads also work if you remove the adhesive.

I would love to be wrong, but I believe that we are nowhere near the end of this pandemic, nor its peak.

It's not going away until we have a vaccine. Not entirely. The second wave doesn't have to hit us too hard though if we can do things in stages. It'll be interesting to see what happens in Germany and America which will relax things before us.

I'm very nervous here. People are not exactly respecting the 2m distances in public. We will be forced back into a harder lockdown imo.

Wont happen imo. Lockdown is about making sure we dont get too many poepl going into hospital at one time, not about us not getting it. As numbers are coming down hospitals are largely coping at the moment. It was on the news that ITU beds are less than 50% full so no need to tighten the lockdown.

are you thinking the 2nd wave will be worse because that's what happened with the spanish flu ?

there are reasons why the 2nd wave of that was so bad that arent replicated now (end of WWI)

Thankfully no one I know has had it. My mum is still full time nurse in A&E, she’s over 60 so just into vulnerable category. She’s worked on Covid ward couple times, but so far She hasn’t got anything yet, but it’s bit of a worry she might. Got no underlying health problems so hoping it’ll be nothing bad if she does get it. Sounds pretty horrendous in hospital from what she’s said though

Sounds like they're saying what a lot of people are desperate and I mean painfully desperate to hear and are doing so from a perceived position of high authority, it's a very dangerous cocktail in itself.

"People we've spoken to" "We're doing this when we don't believe we should" etc etc - I'm sorry but that is not enough evidence.

While there have been huge failings from governments, especially the US and UK (among others obviously) the measures are now in and so we still don't know what happens without them in the long term. We don't, those doctors don't and it's reckless to suggest they do especially with such anecdotal evidence.

It's evidence that they are experiencing themselves, they are the ones on the front line, they've been working in this field for the last 20 years.

Did you watch the whole interview or skip through it. They came from it with facts and figures.

One thing is for sure there will be a lot more people sick when everyone is let out.

No one I know has had it but then I know very few people.

What amazes me is the pictures of the dead that have been published.

Has anyone else noticed the similarity between them.

Nearly every one has a big round face.

I really worry for my wife.

I should be ok I'm as skinny as a rake.
