True, but then if the 'rubbish' EU players are stopping their English / British counterparts, perhaps they're simply not good enough anyway?

I don’t subscribe to this tbh. Clubs and fans definitely would give a player bought in from abroad more time than a academy prospect imo even if the younger player is better.

Is it? Not from what I’ve seen especially lower down when I was a academy coach.

Look at spurs purchasing a £30m sissoko who lets be honest is a nice lad but pretty awful footballer blocking the likes of u20 World Cup winner Onomah or us buying Nkoudou/Nike for 10a of millions while we had a U20 World Cup winner Edwards sitting on the side lines waiting for a chance.

I bet there’s countless other teams that have done the same thing.

Maybe more time is wrong but would definitely prefer a player being bought in than to use what they have in academy.

I think the main issue here is choice.

UK based clubs will still be able to bring in the staff they need from home.

But if they can't, or there's a skills shortage, and want to recruit from European markets it will be much harder to do so.

Smaller clubs will obviously be impacted more than others. Which at a time when budgets will be tight (at best) at it is following the CV19 fallout, isn't exactly great news.

So effectively in the future British clubs - and as you say especially those further down the leagues - will be forced to recruit from a much smaller, potentially (probably) less talented pool of trainers.

How on earth is that going to help enhance, and increase, the quality of British football talent?

Not sure this is true of most sets of supporters tbh.

For example I think more Gooners would've preferred to see Krystian Bielik (yeah, I know) given more on a chance to grow at the club, than see Mohamed Elneny blocking his way.

There are many other examples I could think of too... some more painful than others (Serge Gnabry )

We’ll have to see how it goes really but I think it won’t be a bad thing overall

Genius isn't it.

Have a feeling these proposals (much like non-skilled categorisation has been) will be softened as they are self harming.

That said, there are a host of (Brexit related) issues whereby political ideology has trumped the needs of the country...

The Premier League has been sold around the globe as this festival of football, where elite players from round the globe gather and embellish the efforts - and more often than not mask the technical inadequacies - of that grittiest of sporting coagulations, the British football kicker.

However most of the time these foreign talents are unaffordable to all bar a handful of English clubs, so they're bought over still raw and unknown, ready to be nurtured and elevated stardom and, more importunely 'MARKETABILITY!'.

With this route to a quick buck seemingly about to be cut off, the inevitable decline in quality will be matched by a decrease in the money on offer to broadcast it.

And whilst it could be argued that, morally speaking, British clubs should be stopped from shipping over young men with promises of potential fame and fortune (or simply fortune) anyway, it feels like in our fervent attempt to finally master 'Zonal Marking' us Brits have scored a spectacular OG here.

Don’t think Arsenal would want Fabregas and Anelka is too old and wouldn’t want to rejoin, unless we gave him and his brothers a lot of money.
