No relegation

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52517532

If you're going to play out remaining games but refuse to have relegation then its clearly just for the money.

There is a real concern that if Prem clubs vote for some system where there is no relegation, then they also will not allow promotion from the Championship.

This going to become on hell of a bun fight and football will come out of it looking really bad at a time when people are just trying to survive.

I don’t think it should be voided. It must be frustrating and the whole situation has diluted everything, but we can’t lose sight of how dominant Liverpool have been this season.

Even if it is voided, no one should lose sight of what actually has happened in that respect.

As far as Billy is concerned, and the poster “Firmino” hinted at this earlier, then just don’t engage with him and his “agenda”.

But, irrespective of his Agenda and indeed reputation, he makes a point that shouldn’t be dismissed because of his perceived agenda. Dismiss it on its own merits instead. More credit to be had that way.

Nah I like highlighting his bollox. Everyone is different Ripleys yknow?

Cant blame clubs for wanting this.

Getting relegated is such a financial hit that clubs will do all they can to stop it.

Add to that covid money loses and it's hardly surprising clubs will do everything they can to stay in the league.

Yes everyone look after their own self interest.

I'm almost looking forward to Sky building up the excitement for Norwich v Brighton in an empty stadium with nothing on the outcome.

Would you bother to watch?

they can easily reduce the number of games required to finish the season. just don't play any games that won't affect European or relegation places.

eg. if a team cannot mathematically be relegated, it doesn't play any remaining games against any other team that also cannot mathematically be relegated.
same for European places.
eg for Liverpool, they only play any of their remaining games against teams that can still be relegated, or can still qualify for Europe.
if eg the team currently in 10th and 11th are still to play each other, but neither can reach Europe, or get relegated, the game is voided.
league positions/points are updated only in regards to possible Europe/relegation.

it won't make a lot of difference as the season restarts, but as each round progresses, more and more matches will not need to be played.

it doesn't really make much difference for teams being placed 9th or 15th at the end of the season, apart from tv money allocated on league position, I believe it's £1/2M difference for each league position
that's easily fixed. for this season only. that part of the money is paid equally regardless of final position

this way could also free up time/space to complete remaining domestic cup games.

But that would mean games being postponed at short notice, as teams become mathematically safe or unable to qualify for Europe.

and? it's not like fans are going to be inconvenienced travelling to an abandoned game.....

so, there'll be a few less games on tv, if they're shown anyway, considering most people on here are complaining about it won't work watching televised games in empty stadiums, then losing something so many are saying won't work anyway seems an acceptable loss. especially considering the increased safety it provides the players/staff, and more tests available for essential workers/general public, it again, seems like an acceptable compromise.

with careful scheduling, there'd be no need to abandon any games during the current round, so teams will have anything from several days a full week or more to realise their next game would be unneccessary, further mitigating unneeded travelling.

at the moment i think i'd watch any game of football I could...

Also bare in mind how fans havent seen there team in weeks now.

I'd hazard a guess that viewing figures for that game would be higher than normal

Players need to be playing regularly. You could have one team sat doing nothing for 3 weeks depending on their fixtures, then they're expected to be fully match fit to perform in a game that is crucial to either end of the table.

There's the issue of bonuses players earn as well. Players are not going to vote to lose thousands of pounds in appearance, clean sheet, goal bonuses, etc.

On to the next barmy idea...

and how many of those do you think they're going to get it the FA/league decide they can't fit all the remaining games into the timespan available? or cancel/void the league completely.
as it stands right now, those players would be gaining, not losing out. and there are some players claiming that lots of players are scared about playing again soon. so yes, the may well be plenty of players willing to vote to play less games.

as for teams sat doing nothing for weeks depending on fixtures, like I said, it would require careful scheduling, but if scheduled on a round-by-round basis rather than all remaining games scheduled upfront, then that very scenario can, if not avoided completely, then certainly minimised to the point where they shouldn't be required to sit out more than 1 round consecutively.
