Underrated United players of the past

For me, the most underrated United player since I’ve been following the game has been Darren Fletcher, unquestionably.

Michael Carrick - It's no coincidence when we signed him in 2006. We started to win trophies again, He was one of our best players in Sir Alex Ferguson's last season as well, He was one of the reasons why we won the league in the 2012/2013 season as well.

In recent years, I’d add Young, Mata and Matic to the list.

When it comes to talking about the French, I'm with Jeremy Clarkson.

Had this kind of super sub poacher reputation but watched a few highlights of games lately where was playing wide right and that man could play football.

Anyone just following the United JA606 board, for example, would think he’s the worst player to pull on the shirt for decades.

When there have actually been three different periods through his United career where he’s shown superb form, including this year, when he was probably our best player for a couple of months.

It’s classic “I don’t understand his job” and/or “He’s not the kind of player I want to see in the side” syndrome.

No, you just massively overrate his standard of play. He’s played well for about a combined six months in his United career.

Do you mean in Beckham’s last season where his form wasn’t as good before going to Madrid? Because that’s the only time he ever played remotely close to the level Beckham did for United on the right.
