Brighton and Dynamo Dresden

Bundesliga close to restarting and suddenly Dynamo Dresden had 2 covid cases and have decided to isolate their whole team for 2 weeks, postponing their first game.

They are bottom of the league and don't want the league to restart.

Brighton have announced a covid case the day before the PL discuss the restart. Best wishes to 'unnamed player'.

They haven't won in 10 games, just 2 points from relegation and have a final fixture run in from hell with Arsenal, City, Man Utd and Liverpool left to play.

Maybe I'm being cynical but I expect the bottom 6 clubs will all have some new cases if the league decides to restart.

Norwich don't deserve another season in the PL, they are 7 points from safety. Just weren't going to stay up.

If the bottom 3 reject any ways to play, then relegate them
----------------------------------------------------------------------

If 7 teams refuse to play then there is nothing the league can do, they need 14 teams on side to get a vote passed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

They don’t need the season to finish to relegate the bottom three though.

And they have made it quite clear they will be relegating three sides even if the season doesn’t restart.

Would love to see the FA try and enforce it, they’ve not got anything right in over a decade.

There is always exceptions to rules and no one could see this coming. I think they may have to make concessions - which they will do if sufficient money for grass roots football is raised.

Like you, mines just an opinion

If any team is relegated when safety is still mathematically possible then their legal eagles will be heading straight to court room city.

I don't blame Villa for refusing to play in neutral venues when 6 of their last 10 games are at home and they are 3 points from escaping the drop zone with a game in hand.

For those who will get relegated not receiving the final third of the TV money is a lot better than risk of dropping down and staying down fora number of years like Sunderland, stoke, birmingham etc. I said it to my mates at the beginning of the pause, they will do everything they can to get the season cancelled. They would much rather have another go at staying up than risk resuming the 9 games and having to play their way to safety. They will push for a cancelation and teams stay as it is or for the idea of having 22 teams.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The problem for them is that if the season isn't finished they're still probably going down.

Clubs will vote to call the league as it is or in PPG which will ensure they get the merit payments. This will send the bottom three down. This is what Brighton actually want.

Season unfinished and PPG will see Brighton paid all the merit payments and international TV money and still retain Prem status.

Once the vote for completing the season behind closed doors is defeated, Brighton will probably quickly change sides and vote to send the bottom three down while securing millions for themselves and Prem football next season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The likely hood of the PL relegating the current bottom three if the season is cancelled or called, is probably the least likely scenario. It's more likely that they keep it as is and not promote the Championship teams or move to a 22 team league for next season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Then you are not informed in my humble opinion. Its the most likely option if the season isn't finished.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If they relegated the teams based on 2/3 of season there would be a significant legal challenge that could possible prevent the new season kicking off. France did this and there are now several lawsuits submitted to stop the relegations and european places. Now imagine Villa get relegated with a game in hand Bournemouth on goal difference based on current table, do you really think there wouldn't be a legal challenge? FA and PL won't just end the season and relegate them, it will be very low on the list of options.

Ban Wissaka is spot on - to call that uninformed is laughable!

Lawsuits may be submitted. Doesn’t mean they have merit though.

I’m not saying I know if they do or not. Because none of us on here have any idea. But I’m sure those that made the decision in France and making it here will have had the foresight to expect lawsuits and will know their position.

It could easily be desperation on the clubs behalf that gets no where and has no impact

I don't thin clubs get their players deliberately infected just because they might want season stopped.

Infections were always going to happen, which was a massive problem with trying to get season finished.

Now Dresden can't play and neither can their opponents, how will that match get rescheduled?

It will become more and more of a mess, and at a time when relaxation in Germany has caused a refresh of upward trend of infections.

Prem clubs are expecting to be missing 2/3 players each, BAME players who are statistically much more at risk are seriously concerned.

And finally Gov has made no announcement about relaxation of rules for professional sport, I don't see football restarting as planned here.
