Joggers

Getting a lot of stick here in Ireland for not obeying social distancing with some even calling for them to be banned.

While some people have a point walkers are every bit as much to blame. They saunter around in groups of 2 and 3 and refuse to go single file when someone comes up against them.

Then there is the lone walker who saunters along the dead centre of the footpath oblivious to anyone around them.

Yes joggers aren’t all innocent but it’s everyone’s responsibility to social distance right now.

When I run I try to choose the quietest places possible and try to stay as far away as possible from people. It’s not always easy with the behaviour of some.

What I can never understand even in non covid times are people who run through busy retail areas. That is something I wouldn’t disagree with banning.

I do a whole new thread about cyclists but one thing that really irks me is people who cycle on the footpath even more so when there is actually a cycle lane.

If you aren’t brave enough to cycle on the road or cycle lane then you should not be cycling simple as.

Also what is interesting is that the older generation would see cycling as something that was for students and young people. And these students and such would generally not drive. Fast forward 15 years and these older people who were in positions of power are retiring and those cycling students are getting into jobs which have more power. So the young enthusiastic graduate is now the boss. Our kids are generally being taught by a forward thinking generation, so things will just keep improving on that front. Yes the majority of the population are stupid, but they don't actually have much say in anything other than in elections where a 3 word slogan with poor spelling is enough to get their vote. Education does actually pay off eventually.

The young enthusiastic graduate can fack off. We’ve found the best employees tend to be the ones that have worked their way up and not gone to uni. Uni tends to fill their heads with useless bullshiete that you have to deprogramme. With those who have worked up, they fit the this better and know the systems better too. I work in a technical field.

But see your point Barry, I think that more has to be done to encourage cycling as a commute.

That's smaller picture stuff though baz. Systems and productivity and such. It's the bigger picture that is more important long term. Hard graft is all well and good but that doesn't often lend itself to bigger picture thinking. It's great for productivity as they often don't question why they are doing something.

They don’t learn the bigger picture at uni. Most uni are so out of touch with reality they have no idea what work they are meant to be training the students for. Questioning why is done by everyone, it’s healthy, uni has fack all input on that.

It depends what course they are doing of course. Most courses aren't actually there to train students to do a particular job.

True, some are very good and relevant. The majority...I’m not sure what exactly they achieve, if anything.

Who knows that they want to do for the rest of their life at age 16 or 17 though when they are choosing courses? Some courses can be good where they cover all aspects of the subject and then when you are a bit more mature and know what you want to do on the back of that course then you can go and do a masters in that particular area of the field.

=====

I often ran along the South Bank, during the day, when I lived in London

Ran along south Bank earlier today. Wasn't too busy

Were you wearing you hammers kit and carrying, Stanley, mate?🌞

I run or cycle here in Co Antrim with my Rangers top, shaved head and growl, and folk have been socially distancing from me since 1988.

Hope you are well, Tomkins.

I might have shouted 'irons' a few times to random people.

My great grandad I believed was from Co Wexford. Turns out he lived in kilfinane in Co Limerick. I'm 1/8 oirish

I'd give anyone with a Rangers top a high five

I don't cycle out of choice, because I have the balance and coordination of Bambi, but I don't have an issue with people cycling on pavements when near busy roads, just so long as they are aware of the people that are using the pavements to walk on. I find this isn't always the case.
