Best sports movies

Rewatched Remember the Titans last night and it’s gotta be in my top 10 sports movies. Up there with..

White Men Can’t Jump
The Longest Yard
Rocky
Raging Bull
Major League
Warrior
Any Given Sunday
Happy Gilmore
Slap Shot

The weird thing is that I really can’t get into watching real American Football but love pretty much any movie about it that I come across. Probably because it’s made to look much more dramatic on screen than in real life - which I guess is the opposite of soccer movies as it’s rare to find a soccer movie more thrilling than the real thing. (Shaolin Soccer excepted).

Has there ever been a decent cricket film? (Actual film not a doco with Viv Richards etc)

Hard to make a film about the most boring sport ever.

Lagaan is a great cricket movie. Mix of Bollywood and British. It's old school and pretty long, but defo worth the watch.

Warrior was excellent.

I'd argue that Raging Bull isn't a sports film. It's a character study film where the protagonist happens to be a boxer. The narrative isn't really built around the fortunes of the sporting career to qualify for the genre.

Robb, how about we remove that from your list and replace it with Kingpin (I know that one is dear to your heart)?

Just watched the Blind Side. Was very good and may even have shed a tear or two.

Wonder why Lily Collins played the character Collins. And why is that even a name?

Kingpin is a classic that sadly not enough people have seen.

However, Raging Bull is included because of a decision by committee. You will have to appeal 🙈
