The lesser spotted Bojo

A very interesting column in today’s Times reads as follows:

“It is up to the Prime Minister to get a grip on his government. Why, for instance did he not seize the moment over the return of schools? He got his job, in part because he is rightly seen as a skilled communicator. But effective communication in a crisis requires more than vivid turns of phrase. It depends on convincing the public that you have a clear plan, grounded in a thorough assessment of all the available evidence. It means articulating that plan honestly and transparently without creating false optimism or sowing unnecessary panic. The first requirement of good communication is to show up. Mr. Johnson needs to show up."

Bojo has hidden so many times and when he has appeared he has blustered his words to reign confusion all around him. To me, he has been shown up as incompetent for his role in a crisis like this.

Thoughts?

Why did Scotland vote to remain part of a union that basically couldn't give a toss about anything north of Birmingham...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
God only knows.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I never! I just blame the bunch of old scared people.

you should lose the vote when you retire!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nope. I'm old and voted for independence, as long as there is hole in my erse I will never vote Tory and genuinely think there is a better way for people to live. My first rule would be - everybody pays their taxes. Don't pay or fiddle them? Then you don't get access to the benefits the rest of us have paid for. This includes all firms/businesses- you want to make profit from here - then you pay your taxes here. No offshore registration allowed. You want that? Fe k off there then.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And what are the benefits you would deny them ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Free schooling for their weans, free NHS treatment and withdraw their driving licence - that just for a start. You don't pay taxes then you don't get the benefits.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not sure how many with off shore tax avoidance use these things

People below the tax threshold do mind you
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Duke, actively go out to catch the tax dodgers and ban off shore firms from operating here.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What? All off shore firms?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
As I said previously, if businesses want to make a profit from here - then they pay full taxes here.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ah. So off shore firms that don't pay taxes.

Fair enough.

Although it will seriously restrict employment opportunities here.

By 2040 more than 60% of the world's top 100 firms are likely to be hq'd in Beijing. They won't even think about trading here unless they get tax breaks. The problem will solve itself.

Sorry but the suggestion that “no one” could deal with this doesn’t sit comfortably with countries and leaders who have actually dealt with it relatively well. Ardern and Sanna Marin right off the bat as I’ve family in both countries have dealt with the situation better. Could reasonably argue sturgeon also.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Under “normal” circumstances I’d agree; but having not long left ICU and near death with a virus that has (as we understand) long lasting affects?

It’s just not the same at all as these other leaders. I’m not excusing the awful decisions that have been made under his leadership. I’m merely pointing out why we’ve seen far less of him which was just answering the OP.

Also adding in that it’s easy for anyone to find fault in hindsight while contributing nothing themselves. Christ, even I can do that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You mean you are defending BoJo because he got corona virus and struggling with it yet he was the one bragging about how he was shaking hands with covid patients? How stupid is that.

Well before Bojo went into isolation, he dithered and cost thousands of lives. Todays’s Sunday Times has an depth article showing this fact. Other countries took far quicker and more decisive action and limited the damage. Bojo meanwhile, stood in front of the nation and lied about how prepared we were. Worth a read 👍
