If the transfer market goes dead

I still think we will have the money to buy big but if we can’t then it’s likely that the rest of the league can’t either.

If this is the case I don’t think that leaves us in that bad of a position.

If you look at our team compared to the other big clubs other than maybe Chelsea we have a much younger squad.

Our oldest outfield regulars this season have been Fred and Maguire who are both only just turned 27. The majority of the rest are quite a bit younger.

Compare that to City and Liverpool. The teams we want to get close to.

City have quite a few ageing key players. The likes of Aguero and Fernandinho are well past the 30 mark. David Silva is off. KDB weeks off 29. I think City may struggle to maintain their level if they can’t buy big.

I don’t think Liverpool are anywhere near imminent decline but if you look at the spine of the team VVD, Hendo, Wxijnaldum, Mane, Firmino, Salah. All late 20’s. Can they maintain this level into their 30’s using their current style of play? Remains to be seen.

All in all if the market goes quite for a while it may be no bad thing for United .

It won’t go dead.

Teams like City, Chelsea, PSG etc aren’t hampered in the the way others are and will continue to operate in a more deflated market imo.

Ffp applies to everyone

The market will reflect what teams can afford. There will be big clubs who cant maintain their wage bill and need to sell. If nobody has £100m for their player, but someone has £60m, then the deal will happen.

I think price deflation is a pretty obvious outcome.

Clubs will still want new players and some clubs will want / need to move players on.

Itl just mean fees will be lower / structured differently.

Dortmund won’t want lower for sancho when they can hold out till next year or 2 and get 100’m or so. Ed has eluded to the fact that our transfer spending will reflect our circumstances. Can see us keeping pogba for sure now as well

We will spend more than most.

And Dortmund have already said they wont stand in his way should Sancho ask to move.

It's just 8f the clubs can agree a fee. The more Dortmund get, the more they will be forced to spend on a replacement so I think it can be done given Doetmund got him cheap in the first place.

There's a big assumption here that in 12 months the finances in the sport will be considerably better. We're heading for the worst global depression since the Wall Street Crash and it's quite plausible we'll still need social distancing throughout the next season and beyond.
