With all the so called slowly unlocking

the country at the moment re the Coronovirus that is in our midst. The opening of schools, shops, pubs etc. Restarting of football, allowing people to fly. The Cummings/Johnson scandal. The Track and Trace App. The one thing that seems to have been conveniently forgotten is the still extraordinarily high number of deaths. Another 412 in the UK yesterday, which is still frightenly high if you are thinking of unlocking the country. Compared to our European neighbours, why is it still so high, and why is it seemingly getting completely overlooked?

Yesterday`s deaths across Europe

UK 412
Italy 117
France 66
Germany 35
Belgium 30
Ireland 16
Netherland 15
Portugal 14
Poland 4
Austria 2
Spain 1

How can Britain still be getting a figure of 412 and Spain only 1, when both countries pretty well shut down at the same time. Extraordinary difference, and shows how many serious mistakes have been made over here.

I still think we have a long, long way to go yet, even if the rest of Europe is now opening up, with restaurants and pubs already open. The death rate seriously needs to drop over here, before they can even think of opening pubs and restaurants, but it seems the Government are pressing on come what may.

Are they right? They seem to have got nearly everything wrong so far, so why should we trust them now?

Sandy, Harry Kane hasn't scored a single goal this year.

That's a fact and it's definitely misleading!
----------------------------------------------------------------------

No that is a fact, so is not misleading at all. If he scores one in the six months of the year that are left, then that statement will indeed be misleading. But at the moment it is absolute right. Just as the fact 412 died yesterday of COVID.

There are absolutely no grey areas in Kane has not scored this year, and 412 were confirmed dead yesterday from the day before on the daily deaths list.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry mate, but something can be both a fact and misleading.

By not including the fact that he was injured and there's been a global pandemic, it misleads someone into thinking he's not playing very well.

Anyway, I don't think I can give a better example, so will leave you with that thought.

The reality is that thousands more people around the world are gonna die from this virus and that is tragic but the reality is we have to move on. This lockdown environment is simply unsustainable. We cannot
keep the world wrapped up on cotton wool. There has to be much greater individual responsibility.... Social distance, wear masks in public and get on with it. If you are at risk (old, sick, pre existing conditions) you know the right thing to... you really don't need your mess of a government advising you.... its common sense. Sunbathing, going to the Park, seeing your mates, going down the pub or getting your annual jolly in Spain really isn't that important.... If it is, then you take the responsibility for it. Pointing fingers at the government for their mishandling of the situation is totally hypocritical when your own social behavior leaves a lot to be desired. Its obvious government's have handled it badly but unless we move on with much more common sense, a second wave/ another lockdown or waiting until there's a vaccine will set the global ecomony back 100 years & then you really will have something to bltch about
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Commonsense is indeed the key word, but a lot will just follow what others have done, and if they see their own Government flouting the rules, then they will as well.

The problem is those that act irresponsible are liable to spread it to those that act responsible if you are saying life has to carry on.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep, sad but true.... The world is a dangerous place I'm afraid, shlt happens, people die but relying on and then blaming the govt when it all goes t1ts up is a pl55 poor excuse.. Time to take individual responsibility and for the general public to get their shlt together. We are being asked to do things which are incredibly easy and require very limited brain power

Problem is mate, the Government have been hugely responsible for the death toll being so high. They didn`t shut down early enough, they did not have enough PPE available, they gave the order to send old people back from hospitals to care homes with the virus. They have been shockingly bad in their decision making throughout this pandemic, so they must take a huge amount of the blame, so not really a pl55 poor excuse.

Even with individual responsibility, that still does not take account of the absolute car crash of a Government leading the response to the Pandemic.

They must and will not be allowed to get away with this absolute clusterfeck of a job they have of containing the virus.

----------------------------------------------------------------------I dont disagree with you but sadly hinsight is a wonderful thing. What really matters is how we move forward. You will have your chance to punish the Govt at the next election. Its the same situation over here with Trump though sadly the Dems are so poor they are incapable of putting forward a candidate of winning.... I'm afraid I can't speak about the political situation in the UK. What I do know is that being overly reliant on some kind of nanny state usually ends badly.... General public tends to expect perfection and then points the finger when they let you down..... Hero worshiping the NHS (who BTW are paid (Poorly) to treat the sick) in what was is flawed system when the shlt hits the fan) is the best example.... Sorry to sound like the American Capitalist I am..... but ya get what ya pay for !

They have stopped showing the death rates graph of different countries because they are misleading.

The different factors at play will not be evident until the pandemic is over and the true deaths per country are known. Different countries collect and collate the information differently.

In this country we are counting deaths that have occured and on the death certificate the cause of death is counted if the death is even suspected of having a Covid connection.

Don't forget that the UK has the highest number of overweight people, one figure I saw recently put it as over 60% of the population, much higher than the rest of Europe, take this in the context of being the most crowded country in Europe and you have the perfect conditions for fatalities from this virus.

Until the pandemic is over and deaths per hundred in the countries directly from the virus are collated, then there can be no true comparison.

And who cares whether we have had more deaths than Spain, or Italy, stop trying to find blame for an act of nature, unless of course the virus was accidentally released from that lab in Wuhan.

I would love to know the death rate of those who have been put on ventilators. I suspect that once you need a ventilator you are as good as dead. That's the reason we are not being told that statistic.

Just a small point here, but you realise "412 deaths yesterday" and "412 records of death yesterday" are two different things? You're using them interchangeably, and that's what is misleading.
The first implies that exactly 412 people died of coronavirus yesterday. The latter is detailing that 412 records of death at some point in the recent past were finalised yesterday.

Unless you genuinely think fewer people are dying on weekends and bank holidays, despite the government and any number of news sources clarifying this every day for months?

I think I preferred the old Sandy who just chugged out pro-Spurs propaganda instead of anti-anyone-who-might-have-upset-Corbyn propaganda. At least the former gave the rest of us a laugh.

The Government gave out the figure of 412 yesterday not me. Not sure why you are blaming me.

`Since yesterday there have been another 412 deaths from Covid` were there very words. Attribute that to them not to me.

And why bring Corbyn into this what has this got to do with him?

You seem just like your normal Johnson apologist, who can do no wrong.

Nah they stopped showing the death rates of countries, because the UK was clearly going second to the USA in total deaths. The daily death rate was a daily fixture, until it became clear of the calamity that was unfolding in the country, then it was suddenly dropped from the briefings.

You would have to be a complete dummy to not see the reason it was dropped. They don`t want you to know what the comparisons are, because they are so bad.

I suspect when the final reckoning comes in, there will be easily 100,000 deaths attributed to Coronavirus in the UK.

Of course comparisons will be made. How else will Governments be held to account?

Sandy, that is massively misleading.

For one, those wen't yesterday's deaths. They were yesterday's reported deaths.

With the bank holiday, there's a clear reason why our numbers are higher than usual.

That isn't to say that mistakes haven't been made but the trend is downward and I think the OP is a bit misleading.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

There were another 377 yesterday, so zero to do with bank holidays. That number is criminally high.

377 yesterday, which I think may have been a Wednesday.
