Testing positive

So, Spurs have had 1 positive test from the latest batch of tests.

If this individual is a player or coach, should all players who have come into close contact with the infected individual self isolate for 14 days in line with the governments track and trace policy?

Player A trains, unaware he is infected

3 days later test reveals Player A is infected

Players, B, C and D test negative

Players B, C and D continue to train

3 days later Players B and C test positive

Unless it Is Immediately visible (via a test) upon being infected, then the above scenario is very possible.

Very possible? I'd say very very unlikely. It hasn't happened with anybody who has tested positive yet, which is understandable considering they're getting tested twice a week.

No test is 100% but the current one is accurate enough for the level of virus we’re dealing with, and it’s certainly accurate enough to ensure we’re not isolating those that have tested negative, just because they’ve had a single positive within a group.

What we can’t do as an economy is start self isolating everyone that’s ever been in contact with a positive result when they’ve been tested as negative, otherwise we take several steps back and the world stops again.

Spurs may even retest before the official one next week just to check, but otherwise that single person will go and isolate, and everyone else will get on with stuff until the next round.

Do they know how long it takes to show up on a test after infected?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No and you don’t know how many others that person has passed it onto by then either.

Well they've only just been allowed to train together with contact between players. That'll be why it hasn't happened previously

Well they've been adhering to the 2 metre distance between each other up until a few days ago.

Now they are training with contact with each other then the chances of infecting others increases dramatically.

Footballers are young and fit though. It’s more who else they come into contact with that concerns me.

Well, quite. My point was more it’s not just about which other footballers they pass it on to, it’s everyone else too.
