Levy`s £175m bank loan

Tottenham have secured a £175m loan from the Bank of England to aid them during the Coronavirus crisis.

Spurs estimate they could lose £200m playing behind-closed-door matches at their 62,303-capacity stadium, with other scheduled events cancelled.

Chairman Daniel Levy said: "We have always run this club on a self-sustaining commercial basis." "It is imperative that we now all work together - scientists, technologists, the government and the live events sector - to find a safe way to bring spectators back to sport and entertainment venues."

Levy will be spitting feathers at all the lost revenue due to the banning of fans from his wet dream multi use new stadium.

I read that Spurs and United are the only 2 clubs that meet the qualifying criteria for eligibility of this particular loan
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Spurs are probably the best financially run club in Europe, so they are an absolute safe bet where bank loans are concerned.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I wonder why the owners (2 Billion Lewis) do not have to stand surety in case of default?
There must be many small Mom & pop businesses who could do with a loan right now.
But, as always, the taxes payers money ( that's you) is handed out by the banks .... to their favorite customers!
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Ted, are the banks publically owned?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sandy, a little research will tell you the answer to that, whatever you mean by "politically owned"
Normally banks are some of the most financially self-interested organizations on the planet ... they make money off of your bank account, not for you, no ... for themselves.
They have favorite customers ... the "big ones".
When the government entrusts them to distribute ermegency funds to those "in need" it will always go to the bank's big customers.
Here in the USA some of the biggest recipients of emergency funds were,.... no not the newsagent store around the corner .....but the richest Universities with endowment funds of 40 Billion US Dollars (that's a "B". Some of those institutions were "shamed" into giving the funds back. Other recipients were global businesses who made themselves look small be hiding behind some of their subsidiaries.
What a Faacking World!!!

Ted, I don`t use banks, I still keep my paper notes under the mattress, and my coins in a tea caddy over the mantlepiece .

The business of THFC goes way beyond football now as you can see from the other uses of the stadium which will generate 10s of millions.

TIming has been bad for Spurs, just as their huge investment really starts to pay dividends it all gets shut down. This has put us at perhaps greater risk than other clubs but at the same time when things do get back to normal, it will help us recover quicker.

and at 0.5% it's almost interest-free money. Very shrewd of Mr Levy to take advanatge of this but what do you expect from this greatest of bean counters
