If football never came back..

How would you cope? I used to think I would really struggle in this scenario, but recent weeks have show just how much football does depend on the constant hype of the transfers and player drama perpetuated by the media when the football isn't actually on.

I haven't missed it at all really.

Yeah, I hadn’t been on here for a while until recently, been a manic couple of months with everything going on.

Unfortunately, I haven’t had any time spare at all for keeping fit (and to be completely honest, for a few weeks I felt more like reaching for the bottle rather than going for a run!). I’m hoping to step that up a bit now though, I still struggle from a dislocated knee a while ago that has knock on issues elsewhere. 5 a side in particular on an indoor pitch is an absolute killer for a good few months.

Jealous of you still playing 11 a side too, I still miss it.

Well I hope all is well and it's good to see you back.

Knee issues are so hard to manage. I'm very lucky in this regard - my dad has knee issues from years of playing but I seem to have skipped that particular inheritance. My brother on the other hand... Not so fortunate!

Although 5/6/7 a side is great and has many advances (touches of the ball, for example), there's really nothing quite like 11 a side football. It's been almost 15 years between the last time I played in competitively and joining a team back in November. I absolutely love it.

I don't envy your indoor pitch! 3G for me is the best by far, followed by a proper pitch. Indoor I've never been keen on at all.

Thanks berba and all good now

No, I hate it and was planning on changing to a different league before this all started. You have piqued my interest in 11 a side again now though!

It really is a case of the mind is still there, it’s just the body executing it that isn’t what it used to be!

Yeh I’ve not missed it much at all.

If I was still going every week I think I would.

I’ve swapped that life for looking after a toddler, so perhaps not surprising I don’t miss the football - I haven’t got bloody time.

That's it.
If there was no covid 19, kids at home, home schooling, worrying about parents, worrying about my wife and kids, social distancing, financial pressures, queuing for groceries, etc etc, then yes, I probably would be missing football.
To be honest, with 3 children at home, two who are autistic, business on hold, trying to keep the wheels moving, I haven't had a fecking minute. 😂

I’ve missed football. Less than I thought I would if I’m honest but that’s because our every day lives have been significantly altered and football becomes a bit of an irrelevance in that context.

But ultimately I enjoy the game. I enjoy watching it, talking about it, playing it (albeit rarely these days). In 40 years I’ve not got bored of watching football and still feel the nervous excitement of a big game. It’s not the most important thing in life, not even close, but it’s enjoyable and I’d definitely miss it.

At least those who were scared that they couldn’t enjoy football without crowd noise will be delighted that the broadcasters are implementing augmented live audio streaming for the games...
