where does it stop

so far, inbetweeners, little Britain and gone with the wind have been removed from screening sites.

Ant and Dec have come out and apologised for dressing up as 2 jamaican guys and chinese girls on their show.

where does it stop?

gone with the wind is a strange one... yes it depicts black slavery... but thats history... you wipe out all the history and you lose sight of what you are fighting for.

will they stop the streaming of every black orientated film like boyz in the hood or menace to society because they throw around the N bomb every 10 seconds.

do you stop the streaming of white chicks, where 2 black guys "whiting out" is deemed acceptable for some reason?

The whole black face thing baffles me. If people were dressing as minstrels fair enough but they are not, feck me you could dress as Lando Calrisian from Star Wars and still be deemed racist for feck sake.

Surely the intent of something is what makes it racist.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

If you dressed as him that’s fine. If you put boot polish on your face then that’s what makes it racist.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What about coal dust?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Brb, gonna call one of my black friends in case Just Shoot thinks I’m some kind of white saviour figure.

You don't have any black friends.

You didnt answer my question btw. It wasnt rhetorical. How do you think my black friends feel when they see blacked up racist tropes tropes used by white people as a source of comedy and entertainment?
________

I will try and answer this, though it wasn't me you asked, and though it's a fraught question.

The first answer is: well, I don't know, do I? That's not a cop-out. If I tried to guess in another context how a black person might feel about something, I'm sure I'd be told very quickly that I couldn't possibly have a clue. So I can only guess here.

The second answer is that I don't know your friends. You might be talking about two black friends, or ten, or fifty, and they might all feel the same way. But I'm thinking back to the Bernardo Silva/Benjamin Mendy thing, when Silva put up the Conguitos mascot and said it looked like Mendy. Though it didn't "offend" me in the slightest, I was amazed how many people, on here and in the wider world, simply could not see the issue and could not understand why Silva was reprimanded and fined. That was a figure with clear racial overtones and caricatured features, and yet Mendy himself obviously didn't care, Raheem Sterling said it was just a laugh between mates, and I'm sure I remember black posters on 606 who thought it was a lot of fuss over nothing. So how could I possibly know that your friends are offending by blackface comedians, when to me it's pretty similar to something I've seen for myself didn't offend black people? Though I haven't spoken to them about it, I can imagine black friends I have had being pretty bemused about it.

So, my second answer is the same as my first one: I don't know. But I would imagine there are plenty of black people (I might even venture that it's a majority) who would simply laugh at the idea of Little Britain's sketches being offensive, or the issue of representation in Gone With the Wind being offensive, and not really care one way or the other.

But, as I said, I could not possibly know. I can only try to use my judgement and experience.

Wonder how many of those weird double entrendre 70s shows were written by paedophiles. Getting their rocks off on kids not quite getting the inside joke.

Like the infamous episode of Jim'll fix it where they set up a huge spit roast.

Don’t remember that but wow

No doubt just another urban myth like the pugwash one
