I always liked Willie Thorne

RIP



He was always a favourite commentator of mine and was part of the 80`s rack pack era when the popularity of snooker really took off.

Yes, the BBC relieved him of commentating duties, out of the older trio of Willie, JV and Dennis, I always preferred Willie out of the 3

He still did the Welsh open on BBC Wales every Feb for the beeb, out of those 3 I'd have gotten rid of Dennis Taylor.

I think he came across as a likeable guy, both when playing and commentating. Not sure if it was a coincidence that a lot of his commentating terminology related to 'betting / numbers terms' - shots were always a 1 in 5 chance etc of being made. Like many sports stars, he fell victim to the gambling bug. Also sad that he passed away in Spain without direct family with him, even though he got their messages of support.

Willie was a very good commentator, he had very good technical knowledge, I was watching Ronnie's 147 from the Crucible from 2008, Willie & Taylor commentating, Thorne was excellent.
