Matic

Martial will (rightfully) get all the headlines but Matic was excellent today. Kept hold of the ball well and his distribution from deep is the closest we have to Carrick in the squad.

That midfield 3 has to be the first choice imo. We should be looking at winning every game up until a potentially tough last game at Leicester 👍

Some great performances all over the pitch. I thought Shaw did particularly well

He looked a real handful in an attacking sense. Maybe Williams arrival on the scene has given him a kick up the ar$e.

Interesting tactic to have him drop back to make a back 3 whenever we had the ball.

Not sure a double pivot of Pogba and Matic provides enough energy in tough away games but then again, without crowds, are away games really away games?

Agree Robb he performed his role really well and it suits the system used today superbly

He had a very good game again. Provides a much calmer and more assured presence in the middle than McTominay and Fred, who although energetic, can often be a bit hectic and rushed.

Agree ableit a fairy lacking Sheffield attack or too much from Midfield either? Tonight he hardly put a foot wrong however

....

Then you get the opposite which happened twice where he got the ball taken off him because he hangs onto it for too long.

All midfielders give it away occasionally. McTominay gives the ball away by being sloppy at times and also crumbling when pressured. Matic is much better at protecting the ball overall. It's not even close.
