Yeah I hear ya Silver, dont get me wrong im all for start ups, I just dont see how one can be crafted and another not.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Part of that is small batches so variation in the end product possible and arguably desirable? Add in the variables of how a publican rests then serves it and the variation top to bottom of barrel. Part of the excitement of 'real' ale though I avoid the 'enthusiasts' happy to sit and discuss it all night.

The big boys churn out the same old and want it served one temperature, one way. Just different.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I dont think ive ever had one tbh, see it in the supermarkets and stuff but ive never tried any of them. When I get to the bar I always order the same. Maybe ill try one

Well BB, what's the story with our pubs opening up, do we have to book and only pubs with restaurant licence?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think the booking up is only for the busier places(which will be every one of them!) Yeah minimum €9 on food for now (making it up as they go along) and max 105mins. Its all bull, will be done away with in no time I imagine.

Have never really drank anything else. Started young trying to be different and finding actually it is more enjoyable and part of the thrill is not knowing how good or otherwise it will be or turning up an unknown gem. Talking draft. Bottles are more consistent of course.

Pub outings predicated by their ale offerings which in the 70s up here was very hard to find - limited to maybe a dozen places in Glasgow? Just a sign of the times now it's turned on it's head somewhat.

Even now we'll have a mini crawl planned but if pub A has a good brew on we'll just stay the night.

England never really lost the tradition as much. 90s in the US it boomed, tanked a bit in the recession but is back on.

So when you say a pub may have a good brew on. Would that be like a house special or something, if you get me? I could understand that but here over the past 10 years or so lots of bars have many of the same craft beers, maybe 3/4 on tap but lots more bottled. Sounds like your craft beer maybe more authentic as such.

Actually, there's probably a 'craft' brew already with that name?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Not sure? I guess they wanted something to differentiate from mass produced stuff? Don't mind the name and it has to be welcomed versus mass produced stuff but then again, some people like the mass produced stuff. Live and let live. Good to have a choice.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
See this is what I was talking about.
Magnanimous or Magnuminous?

BB, no, not necessarily a special brew. Could be just the house regular but is it a new barrel, temperature, clarity, creaminess and sustainability of the head - all a bit intangible but you know when it’s a good one. In the old days the first question we’d ask the barman is what’s good tonight? Feedback from customers is key to knowing that. Similarly, it’s ok to return a pint as not satisfactory. Maybe too sour or cloudy especially near the end of the barrel. What’s on and what’s off or needing changed in the cellar was always important, a wee buzz when your favourite comes back on.

Makes it sound like I’m some sort of CAMRA nut. Absolutely not but if out prefer something interesting.
