Every day a school day. So the medic conversation last night inevitably covered Covid. He says getting 2 viruses on your skin is good, getting 1000 of them in your eye, bad. So I challenge that cos we all know virus multiply rapidly, right? Yes, but turns out the immunity process can develop more effectively if it is slow rather than being overwhelmed.
He then explains how ‘vaccination’ this way has been done since the 16th century and particularly effective against smallpox. Taking scabs from mildly affected people and deliberately putting them on the healthy to build immunity. Lots of variations on the method like put ground scab on a light dermal scratch, not an open wound, allow the antibody to build slow.
I guess we have modern vaccine engineering and all sorts of regulatory testing nowadays but unwittingly, and as we all realise, the Londons and New Yorks have probably done the variolation albeit with a terrible toll?
