Unsung hero Martinez

While he's been around the club for a while we haven't really seen how good he could be given he's never been given a run of games. When Leno got injured it was a big blow he's been one of best players for a long time. Fair play to Martinez he's come in not look flustered and made some important saves and most importantly he has instilled some confidence in the back line. From what I've seen his distribution is better than Leno's. I'm sure Leno will come back in which is right but he has Martinez hot on his heels.

He seems to hold things really well, when Leno would punch them away. Maybe leaves himself more open to mistakes as one day he'll spill something to a striker, but so far he's been great.

The confidence he has is unreal. When's last time we had an unflappable keeper like that. His command in the box was beautiful today. Should keep his place for certain

I thought he shouldn't have come out for the Brighton winner, he made it easy for him - but I'm quibbling really, apart from that he has been quite brilliant

He is so much better at commanding his box than Leno and takes a lot if pressure off the defence. His distribution is better too. Leno is a better shot stopper but Martinez deserves to keep his place when Leno is fit again, based on current form.

He's come a looong way since the 7-5 Reading game in 2012.

He has been exceptional from long balls, crosses and set-pieces. I have more belief in him commanding his area than Leno.

The biggest compliment we can give him is that we've not missed Leno at all.

Also, 3 consecutive clean sheets in the league - when did we last do that?

He’s been a rock between the post Leno has to be very worried indeed that he can’t dislodge Martinez easily now.

Martinez is good at long distance shots, coming for crosses and corners, reading the game and coming early to claim the ball (very under rated for this as he makes it look easy but commentators today mentioned it) and controlling his defenders and the box. He is not so good on close shots.

The Sheffield goal is a good example. He came for the cross, had someone in front of him so couldnt go for the ball, gets back on the line - all good so far. It then goes wrong as our players have left 3 Sheffield players unmarked by the corner of the 6 yard box as the ball deflects off Holding. His attempt at the save shows the weak point. He spreads himself to block the shot but doesnt have the reflexes to get a hand to the ball.

Overall I think he is a good keeper and all of the other attributes mean he wins the ball earlier a lot of the time so doesnt have to face the shot. So many people just dont see that and base their judgement only on saves made. Oh and his distribution is good as well.

Martinez easily MOTM. It will be hard to bench him on this form.

This is headaches for Arteta

Not this season, next. It'd be plain foolish to risk playing Leno again this season given how horrendous it all could have been so Martinez will see it out. With a chance to write one hell of a case to be there next season. City, Pool, Leicester, Spurs, a cup final if he gets a clean sheet vs City. He can literally write his own ticket to the No.1 spot next season. If not here then somewhere else.

Personally, I think he may be better than Leno. He most certainly knows what he's doing way more than Leno. Watching the two, sorry but Leno looks like the No. 2 keeper. And I mean literally looks like on screen. The difference in the twos presence is a gulf. Martinez plays like a veteran WC keeper. Leno is so far behind him on the learning curve it's unreal.

To be fair, if Martinez can keep this level of showing up then next season's headache won't be which is No.1 and which is 2. It's going to be which keeper are we keeping because one is definitely leaving.

What i like about Martinez is that the guy is a freaking mountain of a GK standing at 6ft5.

People who say having a tall and strong GK doesnt make a difference are clearly lying. When smaller GK will look to punch the ball this guy can just easily catch it.

He also seems very commanding. Very please with what i'm seeing so far.
