now for a full week in Scotland.

Handful of new cases each day which hopefully are being traced etc

It's been a rocky few months up here and we haven't covered ourselves in glory during it all particularly when it came to care homes and testing but I feel like the country has came together especially in the last 2 months and the results are showing this.

the next 2 weeks are crucial with the biggest easing of lock down, hopefully we can start getting back to normal and people who have been struggling over the last few months mentally and physically can get the help they need and start trying to get their lives back on track.

this is the real test now, things opening back up.

expect a second spike but i also think we are ahead of the game now, prepared. shops set up right, masks, workplaces (hopefully).

Yeah the reaction and behaviour of shops and people in Scotland has on the whole been excellent. That's not to say it hasn't in England but, well, it hasn't

------

On the whole, the reaction and behaviour for the vast majority in England has been excellent too, and most are following the distancing guidelines etc. 10% are being careless and 5% are behaving like ar$es, and this may eventually cause problems in future. We'll need to wait and see.

Cases and deaths are continuing to fall despite a gradual relaxation of lockdown rules. Time will tell whether the percentage of careless in Scotland and England are so different.

The real effects are yet to be felt. Unemployment will be at record levels for years now

In the report I read for stats on COVID it said No reported deaths in a week of people who have tested positive. And only 5 confirmed new cases in Scotland.
While this is a terrific achievement given the overall impact to the UK after all this. For Scotland to publish these findings is both remarkable and damning to other UK regions.
It also makes all the silly fighting in the street about not wearing masks a bit pointless.
But I find myself chewing over that last bit and thinking damn lies and statistics.
If this is the stats for confirmed cases how many deaths are being swept under the rug?
Given the delay in rolling out testing, a small niggling thought asks will the availability of tests become scarce to now keep reported figures down?

Not to put a damper on this news, I think it’s great too. The UK was second most affected only to the US on a recent list tracking total death. So to now have things coming under control is a very positive thing.

I agree the recession to follow will be hardest to recover from. A guy in my work mentioned UK debt has shot up since 2008. I thought this sounded strange given the Government’s austerity policy these past 10 years but some research backs this up.

It’s recorded public sector debt increased sharply because of: a 2008-13 recession, lower tax receipts, and higher spending on unemployment benefits. If we slip back into a recession now it could be very difficult to recover and will leave a legacy of debt for the next generation to fix. I wouldn’t advocate putting the economy ahead of public safety but measures to stimulate the economy must be a priority to help protect jobs.
