City's Centurions

You really do have to take your hat off to them, a remarkable achievement.

Think our lot have taken their eye off the ball recently and you can't blame them but for a team to have the sort of intensity required over 38 games to amass 100 points is incredible.

City and Liverpool have dominated league seasons in recent years like nobody before. Even United in their pomp barely hit 90 points.

Yes we lost 4 of 6 but that wasn't all in the league was it. The athletico losses for example were well against the run of play and fair play to them they are capable of doing that to any team. Also we lost an fa cup game to Chelsea which again we were well in the game and Chelsea are another good team. The Watford game is the only one that can be pointed at and fair play we weren't at the races and Watford were great that game so no complaints.

It's silly to suggest we were somehow on a downward spiral.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The argument is all pretty futile. Nobody knows what might have happened with no lockdown, or if Liverpool had been pushed to the wire. L'pool fans will argue one scenario, rival fans the other. They may just rightly claim it silly to deny there'd been a dip in results pre-lockdown, which is hardly the same as calling it a downward spiral.

The insulting dominance with which the title was won is undeniable though. Record or no record, it's still one of the best league campaigns in living memory.

Someone said they don't care about records though, only titles. I don't think that's totally sincere, or at least not appropriately worded. "I'm happy as long as the trophy's in the cabinet", yeah, fair enough no-one can begrudge the fans that. But anything that serves to add further gloss to a great achievement is a further reason to feel proud of it. It just seems a bit defensive to deny that.

Notwithstanding all of the above, I am 100% certain that going forward this title will hold a very special place in Liverpool fans' hearts, inevitably and rightly so. It puts an end to decades of anguish and hurt for the fans, and for the club itself it means overcoming a mental stumbling block that had become problematic. Thinking back, as a Madrid fan, to the 32-year wait (1966-98) to lift the European Cup again, the sense of release that came from that title was immense, and it also opened the floodgates for many more to come. Liverpool may or not win the title next year, but I'm sure as hell that the next one won't be anywhere near as long in coming as this year's.

Congratulations!

Liverpool are currently 18 points clear. United have previously won the Premier League by 18 points, so yes United have been equally dominant.

For the 2nd season in a row we have got more points than Fergie ever did in a season, and that's after pushing about for the last quarter of the season too.

do you get a trophy for that?

Total points is less indicative of dominance than points gap tbh.

Thats a valid interpretation, although they are very closely correlated. It is much harder to have a record points gap if you don't have a record (or near record) points total.

Not really.

When you play teams, the winner gets more points. If you're winning many many games that implies dominance and winning many many games gets you many many points.

The fact there's a 12 point gap between 2nd and 3rd also needs to be considered.

there is a big big difference between City hitting 100 points and liverpool not, and thats the fact you pushed them until the very end of the season, so they had to play with an intensity over 38 games.

Liverpool havent had that as the league was pretty much wrapped up months ago
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Check the table that year, nobody pushed City that season, the PL was wrapped up early and the remainder of wins were about being hungry for the 100 points. You are mixing it up with last year when there was a true race the whole way and both clubs brought out the best in each other.
