Coronavirus - death data scandal

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-53443724

Reports are emerging that there has been an error in the way that deaths related to COVID-19 have been recorded.

The key detail is that anyone who has suffered from COVID-19 at any stage, and has subsequently died, is recorded as a COVID-19 related death.

As one source puts it, this means you could have had Coronavirus in February, recovered fully, then died having been hit by a bus in July and you'd be recorded as a COVID-19 death.

What the actual fack?

People are scared, businesses are going under... and now we can't even trust the numbers, let alone anything else.

What a mess.

Is there any competence, anywhere in public organisations?

I work with some public sector organisations and they are generally a shambles. A few good people lost in a sea of bureaucracy, blame shifting and incompetence.

This was known months ago

Only becomes a scandal when the journalists start doing their job

Really? I thought an Oxford professor only discovered it this week?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nope was known since day 1. But this thing about getting the virus in Feb and being registered as a covid19 death 4 months later is news to me...

In which case I think the news today is actually breaking news.

I personally know of incidences recorded as covid related deaths which weren't.

Whilst some I've only heard through individuals there is one that I have no doubt about.

Family friends in Yorkshire had their father go into hospital with hip complaint. While in there he developed stomach issues and subsequently died. The family were told that if they accepted cause of death as covid related they could have the body for burial within 3 days. If not it could take up to 8 weeks for release. They accepted.

Other cases reported the same thing

This is what it says in the PDF I posted. Basically doctors have been told during the crisis that they don't have to confirm COVID-19, just use their judgement and therefore no report needed from the coroner. This therefore speeds up the process. It appears some doctors are taking advantage of this arrangement.

.............has never been more apt.

They've now announced the suspension of the daily death figure.

To be expected if they believe it is flawed. I’ve said before I’ve been wondering why when we get a daily average of 80 or so, why is it that say less than 20 have passed away in hospital or care homes?

Have the others all just died at home from a virus that destroys your breathing ability apart from affecting the many organs we are now being told? I highly doubt that although some could have been from be-lingering affects.

It would certainly put a completely different perspective on things but then again my major concern is that the population in the main are just too scared and the domino affect will keep on killing the economy or any chance it had on surviving.

People still refuse to return to work and goodness knows what it will be like when schools are supposed to return
