Rivals create 'narrative' over VAR

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hit back at claims Manchester United have received favourable VAR decisions after Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard warned his players to be careful in Sunday's FA Cup semi-final.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday, Lampard clamed United have "got a few in their favour" in recent weeks and instructed his players to "not dive in" at Wembley.

Solskjaer has denied his side have received fortunate decisions from VAR and believes rivals are attempting to put pressure on match officials.

"It looks like there's a narrative. It looks like people want to influence whoever is making the decisions," said Solskjaer, who also hit back at Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho's claim United have been "lucky" in the race for the top four.

"I hear people talking about luck, that we've been lucky more than unlucky.

"If you look at the factual decisions - and I don't want to sound like a certain manager talking about facts - but if you're offside, you're offside - that is clear.

"Talking about luckā€¦ the penalty that we got against Tottenham in the last minute that was taken away from us, the might have been two points for us.

"Talking about the red card that [Oriol] Romeu should have had against us when he got Mason Greenwood almost crippled, that should have been a red card. Maybe that would have helped us.

"Talking about Mark Noble when he should have been sent off against us when we lost to West Ham.

"Talking about the actual decision that is made, that is against Manchester United but is overturned and corrected. So it is actually me that should be complaining that we get decisions against us on the pitch by the onfield referee.

"There is a narrative there but we just have to focus on our games and let other people talk."

Solskjaer insists he has full faith in the match officials for the FA Cup semi-final, as United look to beat Chelsea for the fourth time this season.

"I'm pretty relaxed about this," he added.

"Referees are going to be making objective decisions. They're not going to be influenced by any emotion anyway, I don't think they'll read it."

Good to see Ole call out others in trying to push a narrative. It seems to be the case with us that when decisions go for us, there is a conspiracy but when they're against us, they're ignored and forgotten.

There is also silence on how many of the decisions were actually wrong. The only one I see that could be wrong was the penalty won by Fernandes recently.

I agree we've been a bit lucky with a couple of decisions recently, namely Bruno's penalty at Villa and the non-penalty for Palace the other night.

But it frustrates me how people blow them out of all proportion simply because it's United. Calling Palace's the other night a 'stonewaller' is just obviously wrong. I've watched it multiple times and I honestly can't tell if Lindelof gets the ball or man first, or at the same time. It's a clumsy challenge and my first thought was penalty, but it was by no means clear-cut, and you can see why VAR wouldn't overturn it whichever way it was given.

it's obvious what is happening, opposition fans call penalty as soon as they see it - because it's a united defender and palace attacker - and then when they see the replays pipe up with "see, see, i told you, it was a clear penalty, i gave it, every other opposition fan gave it, why didn't the ref?"

Crazy to think we would be fighting for 2nd if they just made the correct decisions this season but instead we are 5th.

how many of the decisions given our way were wrong?

if anything ole should be complaining about match referee bias that VAR keeps having to undo their mistakes

Fat Frank should be fined for what he is implying about the accuracy of VAR and the judgement of it's officials. Offside... is offside. unfortunately for him.

He also fails to acknowledge the ones that went against United like the shoulder ball penalty outside the box vs Bournemouth.

What he really means is 'don't dive in recklessly against United on Sunday as the VAR cameras will almost certainly catch you out'.

Begs the question, did his players really need reminding of this?
