It was supposedly a devastating loss when he left, also in light of our own transfer ban, not that we were going to replace him.
Now a year later how are things with him and us? By his own words he says he had a "bad" first season at his new club. This is possibly over self criticism, his club seems to be doing well. Then the lockdown turned all sports into a compromise situation .
To me it looks we have done quite well, challenging for a cup and a spot, besides an ok European adventure. We have blooded new players, and maintained our league standing. We will always be grateful to Eden for his time here, but his departure doesn't now feel so disastrous as was initially predicted many on this forum. Its strange we were hearing his name all the time and now hardly ever.

He's not exaggerating, he's had a lot of injury trouble and hasn't really been able to find his stride. Hopefully he's saved a bit of magic for the Etihad. Courtois has had a brilliant season though.
You've made some very exciting young signings in the past year. Added to what you're bringing through your own youth system, the future really looks bright. I know Frank's getting criticised for the defensive issue, but at least while that gets sorted you're getting value-for-money entertainment.

Pulisic has helped fill that void...and our new signings can only increase our striking potential next term
We can't be taken seriously with our defence as it stands though

I honestly haven't missed him that much to be fair, far far less than I expected to. I thought we would struggle s hell of a lot more than we have and we have done so much better than I expected without him, even if we fail to make the top four. I think he would of enjoyed this season with us. I read an article yesterday where we were reminded about his desire to return to Chelsea one day, well I'm sorry Eden, I can't see that happening. He's 29 now and would be minimum 31 before Madrid would even consider letting him go I suspect and we aren't going to pay big money for older players soon unless we are desperate and with recent signings and those to come, I can't see that situation arising.
Eden did well for us and I'll be grateful we had him but I see him as a great player who once played fir us rather than a club legend. Glad we had him, wish he'd stayed but it's over now.

Well, Eden has now had plenty of time to get adjusted and settled in at RM.
I think that this following season ,we might see the best of him, especially if ZZ can get rid of the bad apple that is Bale.
I have to agree with what has been said, although we loved the guy, he hasn't been too badly missed, our youngsters are only going to get better over the next couple of years.

Agreed Harl, but he's going to need a good injury-free run to get properly settled, imo.

Had a few arguments with that Nickasaurus but I said he was overrated and would flop at Madrid
